The Trump administration has passed to more than 500 employees of the Mass Media Agency (USAGM), a federal body that manages government broadcasters.
Most of the fired were the Voice of America (VOA), supported by the United States that President Donald Trump pledged to close.
Acting Corridge CEO Lek said the decision “will help reduce the federal bureaucracy, improve the service of agencies and save American people more than their earned money.” The staff described the dismissal as “disgusting”.
Voa was created during World War II to withstand Nazi propaganda and became the main media channel.
This step notes the latest Trump administration attempt to expose the output. In June, The lake has announced that 639 employees would be stoppedAlthough the messages were later canceled from the documents. Some employees also filed lawsuits.
Lawyers on Thursday said the agency said 486 VOA employees and 46 USAGM employees are planned to be knocked down. This will leave 108 employees in VOA and 158 in USAGM.
The announcement late on Friday night happened a day after the judge ruled that the Trump administration did not comply with the proper procedures in an attempt to dismiss VOA director Michael Abramowice. The judge also ordered the lake to sit behind a deposit where her lawyers were interrogated.
The lawsuit was initiated by a group of agency staff trying to block attempts to close Voa.
“We find constant lake attacks on our agency,” they said in a statement to the BBC CBS News partner.
“We look forward to her deposit to hear whether her VOA dismantling plan was made with a strict review process that requires Congress. So far, we have not seen any evidence of this, and so we will continue to fight for what we consider our rights in accordance with the law.”
Most VOA journalists have been on administrative vacation since March, but some staff who talked on the Persian have been back as a war between Israel and Iran, this summer began.
The notifications will also not affect the journalists who work in the office of the Cuba broadcasting department, which broadcasts the news in Spanish with Miami.
Critics say Trump’s attempts will deprive VOA on the press freedom and affect America’s ability to exercise soft power abroad. The administration has accused the anti-Trump and radical.
Voa broadcasts TV, radio and digital content in almost 50 languages.
