US President Donald Trump intends to get a luxurious Jumbo Ret designed for use as a presidential plane, from the royal family of Qatar.
According to reports on US media, the aircraft will not be ready for use at once because it will need to be finalized. The US government also plans to check the gift for spyware.
In an unusual agreement, the aircraft will also be transferred to the Trump presidential library at the end of its term, media sources said.
The news of the gift comes when Trump intends to visit Qatar this week when he goes on a trip to the Middle East, the first major foreign trip of his second term.
The value of the gift and its processing necessarily raises legal and ethical issues among critics.
The current White House fleet includes two Boeing 747-200B aircraft designed for presidential use with special communication equipment and features such as office, office and conference room, US Air Force reports. Aircraft have been used since 1990 and 1991.
The Air Force planes are usually transferred to other administrations. According to the National Archives, only the Air Force has a reactive aircraft at the Reagan Presidential Library, and seven presidents flew before the donation.
Qatar is said to be offered by Trump administration Boeing 747-8, a much more new model that ABC Reports was upgraded in the Flying Palace.
Boeing has been contract to provide the White House with new planes but Trump complained earlier this year that the company was behind the schedule. Its administration initially negotiated with Boeing for two specialized 747-8 aircraft during its first administration.
The aircraft manufacturer said the aircraft would be available up to 2027 or 2028.
“No, I am not satisfied with Boeing. It takes a lot of time, you know, air force, we have long concluded this contract,” Trump said in February.
“We can buy a plane either get the plane or what.”
During the first term, Trump had a positive diplomatic relationship with Qatar, which included a message in 2019 that the country would make a large purchase of US aircraft.
Earlier, Qatar also gave private planes as gifts to other countries, such as a luxury aircraft, which was provided in 2018.
