On Thursday, President Donald Trump signed an order to increase domestic production of critical minerals, including uranium, copper, potassium, gold and possibly coal.

Trump ordered the federal agency to file lists of expected mineral projects and accelerate their review in coordination with the National Energy Domination Council led by the Interior Minister of Burgum, the White House official said.

The President also ordered Burgum to prioritize critical production of minerals on federal lands over other events, the official said. According to the official, Burgum can determine whether other minerals such as coal are covered.

Trump will use the law protection law to increase the production of minerals, the official said. President Joe Biden also addressed DPA to enhance the production of important minerals in 2022.

The US International Development Corporation will fund new production projects through a special distribution of critical minerals in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense, the official said.

According to the US Geological Service, the US imported 46% of copper and 91% of its potassium in 2023. Potassium is a key fertilizer used in agriculture. Nuclear stations in the US imported 99% uranium concentrate used to prepare the fuel reactor in 2023, according to the energy information administration.
