Donald Trump said the United States will send more weapons to Ukraine after announcement last week that Washington would stop some critical weapons supplies to Kiev.
During the meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump said he was “not happy” with Russian Vladimir Putin and that Ukraine “struck”.
Trump also noted that the United States will send primarily “defensive weapons” to help Ukraine military efforts.
Among the weapons, it was reportedly housed on the pause last week there were air defense missiles and accurate artillery shells. Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky turned to deliveries, describing US patriots as “real life defenders”.
Last week, the White House stated that it was decided to “put the interests of America” in response to a review of the Ministry of Defense of military support to other countries.
The obvious change in Trump’s heart occurred through the days of the deadly Russian drone and missile bargains of Ukrainian cities, including the capital of Kiev. According to local officials, one attack on the city took a third life.
Trump said at the end of Monday that Kiev needs to be defended.
“We are going to send a few more weapons. We must … They are very very bad now,” he said during a press conference from Netanyahu.
“I am disappointed that President Putin has not stopped,” he added.
Pentagon replied with a brief statement Saying that “at the direction of the President Trump, the Ministry of Defense sends additional defensive weapons to Ukraine to ensure that Ukrainians can defend themselves while we work to ensure lasting peace and ensure the murder.”
After a week of uncertainty, the American step will be relieved to Ukraine, says Paul Adams BBC in Kiev.
Kyiv warned that the step would stop some deliveries interfere with her ability to defend from the escalation of air strikes and Russian success.
Zelensky stated at the end of last week that he talked to Trump “about the possibilities in defense of the air and agreed that we would work together to strengthen the defense of our sky.”
The war in Ukraine has been raging for more than three years since Russia has launched a complete invasion in February 2022.
The ceasefire negotiations also stopped largely after several Trump’s attempts to make a deal between the two sides.
Following the call with Putin last week, Trump said he was “not progress” to end the conflict by adding “I don’t think he wants to stop.”
A few hours after the call Ukraine said Russia released a record 539 drone and 11 missiles Targeting Kyiv, but also getting into the Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Chernihiv regions.
Zelensky called on international allies – especially the United States – to increase pressure on Moscow and impose large sanctions.
