Trump picks former State Department press secretary Ortagus as deputy ambassador to the Middle East

US President-elect Donald Trump announced via Truth Social that his former State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus will work as the deputy special envoy of the president for peace in the Middle East.

On Friday afternoon, Trump announced that Ortagus would work under him Stephen WitkoffNew York real estate mogul selected as Middle East envoy in November.

“Morgan fought me for three years, but hopefully she’s learned her lesson,” Trump wrote in his message. “These things usually don’t work out, but she has strong Republican support, and I’m not doing it for myself, I’m doing it for them. We’ll see what happens.”

He added that she would “hopefully” be an asset to Witkoff.

“We strive to bring peace and prosperity a very troubled region“, Trump wrote. “I expect great results, and soon!”

Ortagus, active US Navy A reserve intelligence officer, she served as State Department press secretary from 2019 to 2021, where she was a member of Trump’s Abraham Accords team.
