President Donald Trump pardoned almost all of the accused on January 6, Monday night, promising to sign an executive order on the issue at his inaugural rally.
Sitting at the Resolute desk in the Oval Office, Trump signed off the release of more than 1,500 accused of crimes as a result of the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. The order requires the Federal Bureau of Prisons to act immediately upon receiving the pardon.
“Tonight I’m going to sign the J6 hostages, sorry, to release them,” Trump said at a rally at Capital One Arena in Washington. “I’m going to the Oval Office, and we’re going to be signing pardons for a lot of people.”
Those pardoned include Enrique Tario, the former chairman of the Proud Boys, who faces 22 years in prison for sedition. Tario’s attorney told The Associated Press that he expects Tario to be released late Monday.
Earlier, Trump promised to “act very quickly” to pardon the so-called “hostages” on his first day in office.

Ex House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California.called Trump’s pardon “disgraceful” and said to remember the “courage” of law enforcement “heroes” who “ensure the preservation of democracy.”
“The president’s actions are a blatant affront to our justice system and to the heroes who have suffered physical scars and emotional trauma while protecting the Capitol, Congress and the Constitution,” said Pelosi, who did not attend Trump’s inauguration on Monday. hosted by X, formerly known as Twitter.
“It is shameful that the president has chosen to make it one of his top priorities to abandon and betray the police officers who put their lives on the line to stop an attempt to derail a peaceful transfer of power,” Pelosi said.
The pardon was one of more than 200 executive orders Trump had to sign Inauguration Day. Other directives he signed on Monday include withdrawing the US from the Paris climate accord, which the US originally signed under former President Barack Obama’s administration in 2015.
Trump previously withdrew the US from the agreement during his first term in 2020.

“The granting of these pardons should not be construed as an admission that any person has engaged in any wrongdoing, nor should the acceptance of a pardon be construed as an admission of guilt of any wrongdoing,” Biden said in a statement. “Our nation is grateful to these public servants for their tireless commitment to our country.”
