US President Donald Trump met with Syrian leader Ahmed Al-Sharaa in Saudi Arabia before heading to Qatar on Wednesday, the White House said, a day after Washington announced raising US sanctions on the country.
Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed Ben Salman oversee the meeting, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan joined the phone.
“President Trump thanked President Erdogan and Crown for his friendship, and told President Al-Sharao that he had a great opportunity to do something historical in his country,” the White House reads.
