President Donald Trump said he was “very angry” and “angry” with Russian President Vladimir Putin, after weeks, an attempt to agree on a ceasefire in Ukraine.
In an interview with NBC News, he stated that he was angry with Putin for attacking the President of Ukraine Loladimir Zelensky, and threatened to impose a 50% tariff for countries buying Russian oil if he disagrees with ceasefire.
“If Russia and I are unable to conclude a transaction to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was the fault of Russia – what it could not be … I’m going to put secondary tariffs … on all oil coming out of Russia,” he said.
Comments meant a shift in the tone of the president to Putin and Russia.
The White House did not immediately respond to a comment request.
European leaders worried that Trump was cozy to Putin when the ceasefire negotiations in Ukraine continued.
During the last six weeks, Trump went to Zelensky in the Oval Office and demanded numerous concessions from the President of Ukraine. In his turn, he leaned Putin and greatly gave in the requirements of the Russian president.
It seems to be a departure from this dynamics. This is the first time the US seriously threatened Russia with consequences to drag legs into the ceasefire, which seemingly put a diplomatic ball in the Moscow court.
NBC News said in a ten -minute telephone interview, Trump told them that he was very evil and “angry” when Putin criticized the authority of Zelensky’s leadership, although the president himself called the Ukrainian leader a dictator and demanded the election.
“We can say that I am very angry, angry when … Putin started entering Zelensky’s authority because it does not go in the right place,” Trump said.
“The new guide means that you will not have a deal for a long time,” he added.
Trump said the Russians knew about their anger, but noted that he had “very good relationships” with Putin, and “anger is rapidly dissipated … if he is doing the right thing.”
However, when Russia does not come to the ceasefire, Trump threatened to target his economy further when he thought it was Putin’s fault.
“There will be 25% of oil and other products sold in the US.
Secondary tariffs can vary up to 50% of the goods that are in the United States from countries still buying oil in Russia. The biggest such buyers with a large separation are China and India.
Trump said he would talk to Putin later a week.
