Donald Trump has signed an executive order to deprive the global, independent and federal information organization of America.
The President’s order is aimed at VOA’s parent campaign for global media or USAGM, which also finances non -profit subjects such as Radio Free Europe and Radio Free Asia, which were originally created to counteract communism.
He also asks the executives of these agencies to “reduce the productivity … to the minimum presence and the function necessary”.
Mike Abramovitz, director of Voa, said he and his entire employee of 1300 people were put on a paid vacation.
Abramovich said that the order left Voa, unable to implement his “vital mission … especially critical today when America’s opponents such as Iran, China and Russia are immersing billions of dollars to create false stories for discrediting the United States.”
There was no explanation for Trump’s administration, and it is not clear whether the stations were completely closed.
CBS, BBC news partner in the US, said Voa staff were reported in an email Crystal Thomas, USagm personnel director.
The source said CBS that all freelance workers and international contractors said there was no money now.
Electronic letters received by CBS reported the head of the Free Asia and Radio Radio Liberty that their federal grants were stopped.
VOA and other USAGM stations serve more than 400,000,000 listeners and are generally equivalent to the BBC World Service funded by the British government.
Elon Musk, a non -elected Trump adviser who reduced the state agencies, used his platform on social media X to urge to close Voa.
The US president also reduced the financing of a number of other federal agencies – including those responsible for prevention, as well as museums and financing libraries.
Trump was very critical of Voa in his first term. He recently appointed the unwavering loyalist of the lake by a special advisor for the US Global Media Agency.
The President regularly states that the main media against him is prejudiced. He called CNN and MSNBC “corrupt” and “illegal” without presenting evidence during a speech at the Ministry of Justice.
The voice of America launched in 1942, which is a mandate to combat Nazi and Japanese propaganda. Its first broadcast – made on the transmitter borrowed from the US BBC – said the modest goal.
Gerald Ford, a former president, in 1976 signed the VOA Public Statute to defend its editorial independence.
Until 1994, the Governor Council was established with the supervision of non -war broadcasting.
In 2013, the shift in the legislation allowed VOA and branches to start broadcasting in the US.
