US President Donald Trump left Alaska without a transaction to end the war in Ukraine, after meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
“There is no deal until there is a deal,” Trump said after a meeting in the world media, adding that “great progress” was made, but “we did not get”.
On his flight back to Washington, he called with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, who later stated that he would go to Washington on Monday. European leaders were also calling.
Despite the fanfare around the summit – Trump’s confidence in the possibility of reaching the ceasefire – no material progress was made to resolve the war in Ukraine.
Each stage of the arrival of the leaders in the joint base of Elmendorf-Richardson in Ancoridge was thoroughly choreagnate.
Putin, who is facing an international warrant for the arrest of the criminal court for alleged war crimes in Ukraine, retreated from the plane and on the red track to warmly meet Trump.
Above the bomber bombers, two leaders posed the photos before rising in the Trump’s presidential vehicle known as the beast.
But despite the pageant presentation and public shows of the genius – as well as the Kremlin’s preliminary assessment that the meeting may last six -hours – Trump and Putin appeared in less than three hours, only a joint statement in the press.
Putin said that in order to make “a resolution of a long -term and long -term, we need to eliminate the root causes of the conflict” in Ukraine.
The phrase showed that Putin did not come from his long -standing position that Ukraine should come out of four regions, which are partly occupied by Russia – Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye – and abandoned their efforts to join the NATO military alliance.
Zelensky expelled the withdrawal from four combat regions, warning that in the future to leave the door open for excited Russia to establish another offensive in the future. Moscow launched a full -scale invasion of Ukraine more than three years ago after the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula in 2014.
Putin also called on Ukrainians and Europeans “not throw a wrench” into the peace process. Trump was silent when his guest spent about eight minutes, turning to the media.
After the floor was allotted, the US president said he had “fantastic relations with President Putin. Vladimir”, passing the Russian leader.
Despite the fact that “many moments were agreed,” he said that “there was a few”, adding that “one is the most significant” – without pointing that it was a key moment. None of the questions took.
They also did not attend the planned bilateral “working lunch”, which was supposed to follow the negotiations.
The Fox News interview after the meeting offered some additional details.
The meeting was “very good”, – said Trump Master Sean Haniti, adding that “we may have a good result.”
Heading to Alaska’s meeting Trump threatened “very serious consequences” If his Russian colleague did not agree to end the war. In July, he stated that there would be 100% secondary tariffs aimed at the rest of Russia’s trading partners when a peaceful deal with Ukraine was not reached within 50 days.
But asking about Fox News about where the meeting left these threats, Trump said, “We don’t need to think about it today.”
“Maybe two weeks, three weeks,” he said, “but the meeting was very good.”
Asked about a possible trilateral summit, including Zelensky, Trump said, “They both want me there and I will be there,” not giving the dates or place to meet.
Noticeably absent at the Alaska meeting, there was a Ukrainian leader, who, like Putin, caused a number of Trump reactions since he returned to the Oval service.
In the conversation, they joined a long call to a flight to Washington before other NATO leaders, including UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, joined the conversation.
Zelensky said he would go to Washington on Monday to meet Trump and that he supported Trump’s proposal for a tripartite meeting.
He noted that “positive signals from the American side regarding participation in Ukraine’s security” is that European allies called for joint efforts to prevent another conflict.
Those who are in Ukraine can with relief sigh There was no such case that would give way to Russia.
But they can also be disturbed by the fact that Putin continued to use the rhetoric that seeks to justify the original purpose of invasion – to disassemble Ukraine as an independent state.
