Tottenham’s manager, Ange Postecoglou, says he has “changed almost everything” to the club and would face doubts about his future, even if he had achieved the qualification of the Champions League through the Premier League this season.
The Spurs are the fourth fund after suffering on Sunday their twentieth defeat of the season’s league in Crystal Palace, with its unpleasant domestic campaign that caused frequent speculations on the future of postcoglou despite the fact that the Australians guide their team to the Europe League End against Manchester United in Bilbao on May 21 (20:00 BST).
“I could have been here (with Tottenham) the fifth year, fifth of this year, and maybe people would not be waiting for white smoke to see if it is my last,” said Postecoglou, who seems to refer to the symbol that is seen above the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican city when a new pope is selected.
“They would still say” ange, it’s great, but everything has been done before. Until this club wins something, you really have no impact. “I knew this was what will be judged and measured.”

Tottenham started in the first postcoglou season in charge of 2023/24, but was reduced to fourth place to get football in the Champions League during that campaign, reach the fifth and enter the Europa League.
The performance of England coefficient this season means that fifth place will be enough to get to the Champions League, but the Spurs are in place to finish in its lowest position since the Modern Premier League began in 1992/93 and the lowest, as it suffered a first flight decrease in 1976/77.
Postecoglou has tended to win trophies during his second season by the clubs and the reward of the winners of the final will be Champions league Football, with great curiosity that the two teams immediately outside the relegation zone (United are a point above Tottenham), compete to join the elite of Europe.
“You cannot dismiss the fact that I also had to change almost everything to the club in terms of play style and the squad,” said Postecoglou, the attacking football brand that has been regularly criticized as excessively gentleman.
“It’s not as if I took a team that ended third or constantly (there). The year before taking over, we finished eighth and did not even qualify in Europe.

“I had to do a lot of heavy elevation, many young players with the right type of thought. This is difficult for us now. It has not been only psychological; it is about changing a whole range of things.”
The only Tottenham trophy of the 21st century was the EFL Cup 2007/08. “You just have to look where the club has been for the last 20 years,” said Postecoglou, who succeeded Antonio Conte.
“It is not because of the lack of quality players or managers. I realized when I took the role that would be a massive opportunity. We have given ourselves a chance: the key is to take it.”
The son of striker Heck-Min returned from the bench against Crystal Palace after a foot injury, but the Midfielder Dejan Kulusevski fell during the loss 2-0.
“We’ll see it,” Postecoglou answered when asked about the Sweden International. “This morning was a bit sore with your knee.
“We will let it set it for 24 hours and evaluate it. The first (diagnosis) was that it is more than once nothing.”
Tottenham won the inaugural edition of the competition, known as the UEFA Cup until 2009, with a total victory of 3-2 against the wolves in the 1972 final.
They have triumphed once since then, surpassing Anderlecht over the penalties after the two legs ended 1-1 in the final of 1984.
