Tottenham boss Postecoglou hasn’t lost ‘belief or determination’ despite fans’ anger at Everton defeat

Ange Postecoglou says his faith in turning Tottenham’s season around has not given up despite a sixth defeat in eight league games this afternoon.

Spurs were beaten 3-2 at Everton with a late second-half comeback giving the score an element of respectability after an uninspiring display at Goodison Park.

The relegation-threatened hosts led 3-0 at the break after efforts from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Iliman Ndiaye were added to an Archie Gray own goal.

Spurs improved after the break but could not find an equalizer after goals from Dejan Kulusevski and substitute Richarlison.

The visiting fans vented their anger at Postecoglou and the players after the final whistle, but the Australian insisted he would continue to work hard to find solutions.

Asked if his faith was beginning to wane, he told Sky Sports: “No, no. If you look at the situation we’re in, it will dissipate eventually. I certainly hope and believe it will. We’ll give ourselves a chance to achieve consistency in performance and results.

“I certainly haven’t lost belief or determination to turn it around and the players showed in the second half that neither.”

We struggled in the first half – Ange

Injury-hit Spurs are 15th in the table, eight points above the relegation zone.

Postecoglou added: “It’s a difficult result. We struggled to really get into the game in the first half and that gave Everton momentum. We gave ourselves a mountain to climb but the players tried to get the game back but we fell short.

“We couldn’t take control of the game. We struggled to get traction with and without the ball and that allowed them to get in behind us. We had a few chances where we probably should have capitalized early on, but it wasn’t enough in the end.

“We were pretty stretched. We literally had 11 players fit enough to start the game. We didn’t have full control of our organization and Everton took advantage of that and we paid the price for that. Radu (Dragusin) had to go out due to the deep cut and restructuring.

“We had the fair share of the game in the second half. We started strongly and I thought Richarlison made the difference and a presence and Mikey Moore gave us something on the left.”

Tottenham are looking to make moves in January

The transfer window is open and Spurs are working hard to strengthen their squad.

“There will be urgency, but I don’t need to say it, everyone sees it,” Postecoglou said. “I have no problem with how the club is doing, they are working hard and trying to find solutions. These players need help that’s for sure and hopefully in the next 10 days or so we’ll find a solution. It’s really complicated, we’re not the only ones in the market. The club is trying hard.”
