This year witnessed exceptional displays of skill and perseverance, especially from the bowlers who consistently delivered match-winning performances across all three formats – Tests, ODIs and T20Is. These players not only showed their ability to adapt to different conditions and opponents, but also demonstrated remarkable resilience and mental strength to excel on the international stage throughout the year.
Among the highlights of the year has been the absolute dominance of a select group of bowlers who have surpassed their peers in claiming the most wickets across all formats. Their performances have been instrumental in shaping the fortunes of their respective teams, and their consistency has earned them widespread recognition. On this note, we take a look at some of these bowlers who were outstanding examples of excellence and dedication in modern cricket, making 2024 a memorable year for the cricketing fraternity.
5) Matt Henry (New Zealand)
Pacer from New Zealand Matt Henry had a memorable moment with the ball in 2024. He played 16 matches for the Black Caps and took 59 wickets at an average of 18.98. He bowled 56 maidens and recorded 7/67 as his best performance, underlining his ability to deliver at critical times.

West Indies paceman Joseph Alzarri had a fruitful year with the ball, leaving a significant impact despite being involved in some controversies. In 35 games, Joseph picked up 63 wickets at an average of 29.65. He bowled 22 maidens and claimed 4/19 as his best performance, showing his ability to break partnerships.

Topping the list is the Indian pace spearhead jasprit bumrahwho enjoyed a phenomenal year. Bumrah was instrumental in Team India’s victorious campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 and was the most economical bowler of the year. In 21 matches, he picked up 86 wickets at an incredible average of 13.76. Bumrah’s best performance was 6/45, and he delivered as many as 87 maiden overs, conceding runs at an economy rate of just 3.06. His extraordinary consistency and ability to deliver under pressure cemented his position as the world’s number one bowler in 2024.
