Hobart Hurricanes cruised to a comprehensive five-wicket victory over Adelaide Strikers in Match 24 of the 2024-25 Big Bash League at Bellerive Oval. Chasing a challenging target of 187, the Hurricanes rode on Tim David’s brilliant knock to register their fourth consecutive win of the season.

Adelaide Strikers set a competitive total

After electing to bat first, the Strikers posted a formidable total of 186/5, thanks to contributions from Chris Lynn (49 off 27) and Alex Ross (47 off 29). Lynn’s aggressive start included five fours and three sixes, while Ross anchored the middle overs with six fours and a maximum. Ollie Pope chipped in with a steady 33 off 27, ensuring a solid platform for the lower order. Jamie Overton provided the final fireworks with a quick 27 not out off 18 balls.

Hobart’s bowlers had a mixed outing. Waqar Salamkheil was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2/22 in his two overs, while Riley Meredith and Billy Stanlake bagged a wicket each. Chris Jordan endured a tough night, conceding 46 runs in his four overs, but managed to pick up a crucial wicket from Ross.

Hobart Hurricanes Chase: Tim David steals the show

In reply, the Hurricanes started strongly with Mitchell Owen playing a fiery knock of 37 in just 16 balls, hitting two fours and three sixes. Matthew Wade also contributed 27 off 18, setting the stage for the middle order. However, the home side lost the wickets of Shai Hope (11) and Ben McDermott (17) cheaply.

It was Tim David who turned the game around with an explosive 62 not out from just 28 balls, with three fours and six towering sixes. Coming in during a tense phase of the match, David dominated the bowlers with an impressive display of hitting power. His partnership with Nikhil Chaudhary (22 off 22) steadied the innings before he unleashed a flurry of boundaries to take the game away from the Strikers. Jordan sealed the win with a boundary as the Hurricanes chased down the target in just 18.4 overs.

For the Strikers, Cameron Boyce excelled with figures of 2/23 from his four overs, while Lloyd Pope also picked up two wickets, but proved costly, conceding 38 runs. Henry Thornton was the only other bowler to claim a wicket, but the rest of the attack struggled to contain the Hurricanes’ batting firepower.
