Viewers old enough to see 1997’s An event horizon may recognize some of the themes in the sci-fi psychological excitement film Slingshot.
Laurence Fishburne Stars in both films, and Paramount+ is currently the streaming home for them too.
Slingshot hit theaters in 2024 and barely impressed, but was on top of short Top Gun: Maverick on Most important+ in the same year.
To help you understand why this movie held on in the streaming verse, Watch with us shares three reasons to watch Slingshot on paramount+.

Slingshot Following a trio of astronauts played by Fishburne, Torer capone and Casey Affleck on a very lonely mission for Titan. All three men are psychologically taxed by their years journey, but John Affleck stands out most. Do you know the secret to successfully portraying someone who loses his mind? It makes the audience believe that the character did not always unravel.
John is not the only one who loses his grip, but the symptoms of space travel and drugs used to put the crew in stasis have a very annoying effect on it. Throughout the film, John is subject to hallucinations that may or may not exist outside his mind. One of the few memories that John holds hold of is his connection with a woman called Zoe (Cru‘S. Emily Beecham), and even that’s not necessarily what he thinks is. Affleck conveys John’s constant confusion and upset, and really seems like a man who has lost himself in space.

Because so much of this story is developing from the perspective of John, we don’t have so long with Captain Franks (Fishburne) or Nash (Capone). Both men are clearly having mental health problems themselves. However, the way they respond around John makes it an open question about whether he can trust his own senses in terms of his crew and friends.
Fishburne plays Franks in a turbulent way that adds air of danger to his later scenes with his costars. For Capone, it is easier to understand Nash’s continuous paranoia when the mission seems to actually aim for failure. Ultimately, Nash’s fears feed into John’s, and that leads a cruise that is already dangerous to the bin of disaster.

If there was a direct competition between An event horizon and SlingshotWe would favor the first for a larger budget and a more imaginative default. We’re not going to ruin the end or last surprise Slingshot here, but it lacks An event horizonB-movie thrill. At its best, Slingshot is a C+ movie with a B+ list cast.
That said, the film’s collection really goes out of its way to keep the audience guess. There is one time after another until the film ends on one last surprise. He made me throw, even if he wasn’t supposed to be funny. Slingshot Pleasantly for what it is, but may not reach cult status at any time soon.
