A teenage sensation Estevao Willian, who is currently playing in the World Cup of the Chelsea Club, the last eight opponents, will join the club after the tournament concludes, while Jamie Gittens, 20, is on the edge of completing a transfer to Stamford Bridge from Borussia Dortmund.
Colwill, who started 35 of 38 Premier League games last season and won his first senior international cap for England in the friendly defeat last month against Senegal, issued a statement of intent for those who went through the gates of Stamford Bridge.
The young man, 22, said: “We all know how great this club is and what has always been the culture of the club. We are trying to strengthen the young boys, the guys arriving, that this club is only for the winners. This is what we have to strive. This is what we want to do together.
“Anyone coming to Chelsea knows the history of the club. They know they will only come to win. We have a great team and everyone is on the same wavelength to try to win.”
Chelsea raised the conference league in May and will return to the Champions League next season after securing a fourth place in the Premier League.
Despite what many considered a successful campaign of the last term, the defender was a candidate in his assessment of his own performances, saying that “I am nowhere to be where I would like to be” ahead of what he calls a “huge season” for both him and the club.
Colwill said, “Defending a V-one has been tough but I think I have shown that I am getting better. I am fine in times when I try to make passes and there are other times that I have been a little lazy.
“It will be a huge season for me at Chelsea (next year). We return to the Champions League that we also plan to do our best. Then we have the Premier League where we want to push and do better than the one we did this season.
“For me, looking at the end of the season where we have the World Cup, it will be an important goal to be.”
