Anyone who knows me knows I’m a big time gym girl who aims to hit her body weight in grams of protein. Whether that means waiting to meal prep or spending a little extra at the grocery store, I always have high protein meals and snacks on hand to support my training. Yes, it’s a hassle, but it’s a hassle worth it!
When it comes to pre-made snacks, I’m also a big time ingredient snob – especially when it comes to protein bars. If something has too many chemicals, hard to pronounce ingredients, added sugars or saturated fats, I won’t buy. The protein-to-calorie ratio also have to be close to one gram of protein for every 10 calories — as a general rule — to ensure I get the most bang for my buck. In case you can’t tell, I’m as picky as it gets!
And yes, of course, the taste is important. The snack must be “worth it” in terms of price, calories and value – that is, how much high quality protein I really get it. While I usually opt for bars that are derived from whey or milk protein, I’ve been obsessed with these vegan protein bars that you’d never know were vegan. They taste like a decadent treat – without any guilt!
these caramel fudge bars are made with pea and soy protein isolates, dairy-free chocolate and vegan caramel, but here’s the kicker: they’re completely sugar-free! Unlike most protein bars on the market, which are candy bars in disguise, natural (sugar-free) sweeteners give these bars a dessert-like taste. It is a dream come true for sweets lovers with protein and health goals to achieve.
As well as having less than one gram of sugar, the bars contain very little saturated fat – just three grams. They’re also packed with five grams of hunger-suppressing fiber and 15 grams of protein! It is a a satisfying snackto say the least; you’ll probably prefer it over your current dessert. The texture is chewy and soft, perfect for candy lovers, chocolates and good baked connoisseurs.
Even if you’re not a fan of chocolate and caramel, there are four other swoon-worthy flavors to choose from: cookie butter, brownie batter, peanut butter and cookie dough. Every flavor has an in between 14 and 15 grams of protein and only 190 calories, so they’re pretty close to the protein-to-calories ratio I’m shooting for. Each pack also has 15 bars, so consider your snack, dessert, breakfast and 3 pm fall needs.
