“These moments can change a lot”

Ruben Amorim believes that the amazing comeback of Manchester United against Lyon to reach the semifinal of the Europa League could be the spark to restart the fortunes of the Red Devils under the Portuguese coach.

The United scored three goals at the last seven minutes of additional time in a notable contest at Old Trafford to advance to the last four where they will meet Athletic Bilbao after a total victory of 7-6.

The Amorim team has endured a while this season, but everything that seemed to be forgotten when Harry Maguire found the network in the 121st minute of the game to give United a 5-4 victory and send the crowd to raptures.

The hosts had achieved a comfortable 2-0 in the half through Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot, but Lyon returned with goals from the second half of Corentin Tolisso and Nicolas Tagliafico.

Tolisso was sent shortly before the end of the normal time, although, despite being a player, the visitors shocked their hosts in extra time with goals from Rayan Cherki and Alexandre Lacazette.

The United made a courage come from his own courtesy of Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Minoo before the head of Maguire shone retirement scenes on the stands.

It ended with what was an exciting contest at Old Trafford. And Amorim hurried to cite another memorable evening to the Annals of the United States.

“I saw the ’99 documentary again for the inspiration for these times. It was a great night,” said the United States head.

“The team was tired and you feel it during the game. In the end, you think it’s over, but here (Old Trafford) it is never over.

“I feel like everything here is possible. Feel the environment.”

Amorim admitted that playing the Premier League and the European Games has affected the physical of his workforce.

And, while the United States manager also called for improvement on his side, he said that a victory that increases morality can have a great deal of consequences, but emphasized that supporters will have to accept it by prioritizing Europe League.

“We have a lot to improve, but the character was there,” said Amorim.

“The coach’s reflection is the league. It can be good in European matches, but your reflection as a team is the league and we are in performance.

“But you have to see the context. You can see that we lack many characteristics in our team. When we play against European teams, you can feel that we can deal with this (physicist). At the Premier League we suffer a lot.

“This is a kind of moment that can change many things. Sometimes we only look at tactical aspects, physical aspects. But these kinds of moments can change a lot in the minds of the players.

“We will have to focus -really on Europe League and risk -sometimes with the children of the Premier League. And fans need to understand this.”
