There’s a new Naked Film leading our way, so it felt like the proper time to revisit the original trilogy of films. I’m sure many outlets plan their Naked Back -up for the new film release week, but I don’t care about “visibility optimization” or some other reptile boardroom lingo.
So I watched all Naked Movies and get off what I think takes hot certified ™: the third movie, The naked gun 33 ⅓: the last insulthas the truly best story about all the movies, though it is widely accepted as the worst movie in the franchise.
The naked gun does not need a story?
Now, I’m sure some of you think a story is the least important part of Spoof movies like The naked gun. That’s how we reach Jason Friedberg’s abomination and Aaron Seltzer as Epic movieso that that view is without power.
Given, the stories of the first two Naked Films are effective in what they are trying to do: Give a series of GAGS and jokes a identifiable narrative framework. But, they don’t really focus on fulfilling any kind of strong story, either narrative or thematic.
And that’s why The naked gun 33 ⅓: the last insult stands out. This is the first film in the series that actually has a well -crafted character, drama and determination.
Naked gun plot 33 ⅓: the final insult
After two films of just being romantically attracted together, The naked gun 33 ⅓: the last insult Finally Frank Drebin and Jane Spencer have married. But things are not perfect: Jane wants to have a baby and Frank seems to be uncontrollable in more than one way. Meanwhile, Frank is trying to prevent bombing and finishing going indoors in prison.
This is where we really have a solid story. The entire arc of The naked gun 33 ⅓: the last insult relating to this turmoil between the two leads. Frank is worried about failing to prevent crime and that affects his future parent. Jane is worried that Frank’s work with the police squad is too dangerous.
This leads to Jane going away on her own and ultimately reconnected with Frank by the climax. And a highlight is definitely the proper word.
The naked gun goes naked with themes
Unlike the other Naked movies, The naked gun 33 ⅓: the last insult manages to weave his conflict of character to as the story. For example, Frank believes he is infiltrating to a bank for guidance on one of the film’s villains, but unknowingly comes into a sperm bank.
This is a good gag all alone, but is directly about the story told with Frank, Jane, and their outlook on getting children. The other Naked Movies really don’t aim for this kind of thematic continuity.
And by the end of The naked gun 33 ⅓: the last insultFrank and Jane work together to prevent the Baddies, and their teamwork leading to resolving their reproductive issues. It is not a complex character work at all, but compared to the other films, it is practical Siddhartha.
I like all Naked movies to varying degrees, but The naked gun 33 ⅓: the last insult actually engages as a real story. Goofy’s story, ridiculous, anarchist but a real story nonetheless.
