Devastated family and friends moved to identify the rising death toll after a a terrorist suspect crashed his car into a large crowd of people on New Year’s Day in New Orleans.
The suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was “hell bent on creating the carnage and damage he caused,” New Orleans Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick said.
“It was very deliberate behavior,” the police superintendent said. “This person was trying to run over as many people as possible.”
At least 15 people were killed Wednesday in what was believed to be a terrorist attack, and dozens were injured, the FBI said.
New Orleans Coroner Dr. Dwight McKenna said in a statement late Wednesday that they will release the names of the victims after autopsies are completed and they have spoken with next of kin.

Former Princeton football player Tiger Beach, 27, died in the attack on Bourbon Street.
In a heartfelt message, his brother Jack Beh remembered the Ivy League running back, who played for Princeton from 2016-18.
“Love you always, brother! You inspired me every day, now you can be with me every minute,” he wrote in a post on social media. “I’ve got that family T, don’t worry. This is for us.”
He graduated from St. Thomas More Catholic High School in Lafayette, Louisiana in 2015, the school said in a release.
“The St. Thomas More Catholic High School community is mourning the loss of one of our own, Tiger Beh, who died early this morning in an attack on New Year’s Day. in New Orleans“, they wrote. “Tiger was a 2015 graduate and excelled in football, lacrosse and track.”
“Please keep the Beh family in your prayers at this time,” they said.

Dedo was a novice nurse when she was hit by a speeding truck while celebrating the New Year.
Her friend Zion Parsons told The Associated Press that she was hit by a truck, saying he was “lucky to be alive.”
“The truck came around the corner and went flying throwing people like in a movie scene, throwing people up in the air,” Parsons, 18, told The Associated Press. “He hit her and threw her at least 30 feet and I was just lucky to be alive.”

Parsons said the 18-year-old was working at a hospital and was going to college.
“She had her own mindset — she didn’t have it all figured out, but she had a plan,” he said.

Nicole Perez was a single mother to her 4-year-old son when she was killed in a truck attack in New Orleans, her employer confirmed to The Associated Press.
Perez was recently promoted to manager of Kimmy’s Deli Metairie, Louisiana and “was really excited about it,” deli owner Kimberly Usher said in a phone interview. Usher confirmed Perez’s death through her sister, who also works for her.

“She was a really good mom,” said Usher, who started a GoFundMe account to cover Perez’s funeral expenses and to help with expenses for her son, who “will have to transition into a new life situation.”

Reggie Hunter, 37, left work and headed to Bourbon Street to welcome 2025, said his cousin Shirel Jackson. Nola.com.
“They decided to go there because he came home from work and said, ‘Hey, it’s Sugar House tomorrow.’ Now is the New Year. Let’s go to town,” Jackson told the publication. “Something so simple. “Hey, God, do you want to give me a ride into town?”

Hunter died from his injuries, Jackson said. Jackson was one of dozens injured in the attack.
