The victim of the attack in New Orleans was the stepson of Prince William’s former nanny


Prince William and the royal family honored the memory of the Briton who died in the terrorist attack in New Orleans.

Edward Pettyfer, 31, has been identified as one of the victims of the early morning New Year’s Day attack on Bourbon Street.

Pettyfer was originally from London, and his stepmother is a former nanny to Princes William and Harry.

“Catherine and I are shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Ed Pettyfer,” the Prince and Princess of Wales said in a statement posted on their official Instagram account.

“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Pettyfer family and all those innocent people who have been tragically affected by this horrific attack.”

The statement ends with the letter W as Prince William signed off on a tribute posted on social media.

In the 1990s, Pettyfer’s stepmother, Alexandra “Tiggy” Legge-Bourke, was nanny to Princes William and Harry.

Pettifer’s family shared a statement released London Metropolitan Police.

“The entire family is devastated by the tragic news of Ed’s death in New Orleans. He was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend to many.

“We will all miss him terribly. Our thoughts are with the other families who have lost their families to this horrific attack. We ask that we may grieve the loss of Ed as a family in private. Thank you.”

King Charles was reportedly deeply saddened to learn of Pettyfer’s death and contacted the family to offer his personal condolences, according to Reuters.

Buckingham Palace did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Pettyfer’s father, Charles, a former British Army officer, married “Tiggy” in 1999, shortly after she stepped down as nanny to Prince William and Prince Harry.

The family remained close to British royalty, with Pettyfer’s half-brother Tom serving as a page to William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2011.

At least 14 people were killed in Wednesday’s attack and dozens were injured, the FBI said.

Devastated family and friends began identifying the growing number of victims after Shamsud-Deen Jabbar, identified by law enforcement as the attacker, plowed his pickup truck into a large crowd on Bourbon Street.

New Orleans Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick said that “Jabbar was determined to create the carnage and damage that he caused.”

“It was very intentional behavior,” he said superintendent of police added. “This person was trying to run over as many people as possible.”
