The US Court is temporarily blocking efforts to deport Gaza Protest Leader

The federal judge temporarily blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to deport the pro-Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil, who was arrested last weekend by immigration agents.

Mr. Khalil, a graduate of the University of Colombia and a permanent US resident, played a key role in protests last year’s war in Gaza on the League campus in New York.

The arrest is part of the promise of President Donald Trump in the confusion of the pro-Palestinian participants of the rally on the campus colleges, in that he called “the first arrest of many who came.”

On Monday, the participants of the rally gathered in New York on Monday, pushing for the release of Mr. Khalil and condemning the actions of the Trump administration.

“We are now confronted with the horrific reality that our own student, a member of the Colombian community, has become a political prison here in the US,” Michael Tadey said in a statement.

According to the court documents, the judge accepted the hearing on Wednesday when Mr Khalil, born in Syria, will speak.

Immigration and Customs Execution Agents (ICE) reported Mr. Khalil that his visa and a green map were canceled on Saturday, his lawyer said.

The Internal Security Department accused the former student of “leading events agreed with Hamas” but did not submit any details.

The BBC asked the agency for more information about the charges.

Earlier, Trump stated that foreign students turned out to be “terrorist sympathizers” who would face deportation. Mr. Khalil is the first known detainee within this policy.

His lawyer Amy Grir condemned his detention as “terrible and unforgivable”, calling it part of the “open repression of the US government from student activity and political speech.”

Mr. Khalil has not been charged with any crime.

Ice’s agents detained him in a Manhattan’s apartment owned by the university and originally placed it in an immigration facility in New Jersey before transferring it to a detention center to Yen, Louisiana, Ice Records reported.

His lawyer claims that Ice also threatened to arrest his wife, an American citizen who is pregnant for eight months. When she tried to visit him in New Jersey, officials told her that he was gone.

The University of Colombia said law enforcement agencies could enter campus property with a warrant, but denied that the University’s leadership has invited ice agents.

On Sunday, Secretary of State Mark Rubio confirmed the administration’s position, posting on X: “We will deny the visas and/or green cards of Hamas fans in America to be deported.”

Last week, Trump’s administration announced that it canceled 400 million dollars (£ 310 million) in the Federal Glants of Colombia, accusing him that he did not fight anti -Semitism in the campus.

Last year, Colombia was an epicenter of pro-Palestinian students across the country against the gas and support of Israel.

Mr. Khalil was a leading negotiator at the Colombian University of Apartheid, when its participants of the rally set up a huge camp at the University Camp in protest against the gas war.

He later told the BBC that he was temporarily rejected by the university where he was a graduate student at the School of International and State Affairs.

The President of the Union of Civil Liberty in New York Donna Lieberman called his deportation “a purposeful revenge and an emergency attack on the first amendment”.

New York Prosecutor General James said he was “extremely concerned” and monitor the case.

Some Jewish Colombian students claim that the protest rhetoric sometimes crossed the line into anti -Semitism, while others joined the Pravolestian demonstrations.

Carli, Jewish-American graduate student Colombia and Mr. Khalil’s friend, told the BBC that the detainee was “a very caring soul”.

“He was very targeted on the Internet and just see how he was so wrong that it is very painful as a person who knows him on a personal level,” said Carly, who refused to share her last name for privacy reasons.

Speaking at Fox News, Trump’s Border Tsar, Tom Homan claimed that Mr. Khalil violated his visa conditions, “closing the buildings and destroying the property.”

More than 48,000 Palestinians were killed in Israel’s hostilities, the Ministry of Health Hamas reports.
