The US has announced a $25m (£20.4m) reward for information leading to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on the day he is sworn in for a third six-year term.

The inauguration ceremony was marred by mutual rebuke from the international community and Venezuelan opposition leaders.

Rewards were also offered for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of Interior Minister Diasdado Cabello.

A new award of up to $15 million has also been proposed for Defense Minister Uladzimir Padrin.

Britain also imposed sanctions on 15 senior Venezuelan officials, including judges, security forces and military officials.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development has said that those under sanctions are responsible for “undermining democracy, the rule of law and violating human rights”.

Foreign Minister David Lammy called the Maduro regime a “fraud.”
