In the Battlestar Galactica Reboot, who do you think is the main villain? While it was easy to point fingers to the colons, these antagonists never pretend to care for humanity … because of that, many fans believe that Baltar, the hypocritical human narcissist, is the main opponent of the show. And while he did not show his true colors until later in the series, shower Ronald D. Moore was planning to predict the heel of this character much faster in the season 2 episode of “Resistance.”
In retrospect, it is a little obvious that “resistance” sets up a Baltar transfer to a villain… in this chapter, he is asked to decide if the main Turo in Silon after the revelation that his girlfriend, Boomer, secretly is one of these enemy robots in secret. It’s supposed to use its so -called Cylon Sensor, but instead it takes the convenient of just a Tyrol poisoning so that it can extortion information out of boomer. From her, he learns how many other cylon agents have infiltrated to the human fleet secretly and then enhances a Tyrol; He never has to question Boomer yet, though, because she is shot dead by Callie.
It is clearly a shocking decision on the part of a Baltar to threaten the life of a human being, but the majority Battlestar Galactica Supporters at the time did not think it was a villain movement. The show often explored what good people would otherwise do when pushing it past its cutting point, and this chapter shows how tigh, a controversial use of fighting law while injured Adama gets people killed in a massacre-esque shooting in Boston. When the title ship’s lead officer gets several people killed with his rash decisions, it is easy to ignore Baltar’s sinister reversions poisoning a guy and then improving it.
Interestingly, Battlestar Galactica Shower Ronald D. Moore did not consider Tyrol poisoning as the beginning of the life of a Baltar villain … at least, not directly. On his podcast commentary for “resistance,” he confirmed that the beginning of the character of Baltar actually darkening was his decision to boomer, and Tyrol poisoning was just a way of doing so. Moore further confirmed that Baltar had hoped to continue his future extortion, a scheme that was ruined only as it was murdered by Callie at the end of the episode.
What makes darkening his character notable is how relatively early it happened … “resistance” is just a fourth season 2 episode, and many Battlestar Galactica Fans think that Baltar does not fully become a villain until he is elected President and begins to cooperate directly with the colons in season 3. Once you realize that he intends to extinguish Boomer indefinitely, it makes sense that Baltar would sell humanity and generally do whatever he needs to do in order to maintain power.
Even if you are a Battlestar Galactica A van that sees Baltar as a more victim than a villain (he won his day in court, after all), it is fascinating to consider the different ways in which his character might have evolved. Heck, Moore was even considering putting a balpm in a love triangle with six and a boomer, which would have made his restrality of the latter feel completely kinky. Of course, that’s one thing we can always rely on from this legendary series: plenty of shades (AHEM) of gray.
