A special investigative group, appointed by the Supreme Court of India, said the purchase of animals in Vantara – a private zoo belonging to the son of Asia’s richest Mukesh Ambani – was in line with all laws.

The shelter was also in the center of angry protests in Maharashtra recently after a sick elephant from a temple in Kolhapur was relocated to Vantar in July after the Supreme Court ruling.
On Tuesday, the court dismissed a statement against the transfer of sick elephants, saying that an independent investigation had already cleared the prosecution.
Team Vantara, operating campaign, welcomed the conclusions and stated that the investigation made it clear “doubts and accusations … There were no grounds”.
