The room is buzzing with the sound of jokes, bangs between friends and a strange academic discussion.

By 13:39 there were at least 35 people in the dining room. Some had already collected food and were located around, while others were queuing and waiting for their turn.

Students who are mixed up with doctors and family members. Then everything changed.

Less than a minute earlier, AI171 flight flew out of the runway at Ahmedabad Airport, just 1.5 km (4800 feet).

Air India 787 Dreamliner was directed to London, which transported 242 people.

But something went catastrophically wrong, and a few seconds after the wheels left the ground, the plane was in trouble. Before he crashed into a busy residential area, a call was sent to the workshop – on the top of the doctors – sending a massive fire to the sky and killed everyone except one person aboard.

The BBC talked to eyewitnesses, including students who were in the dormitory, together with the members of the trainees who died and their faculty to gather what happened in these horrific seconds – and the following consequences.

People on the ground could not immediately work out what happened.

A doctor who works with the Department of College’s kidney sciences says he and his colleagues were in their building, about 500 meters when they heard a “deafening sound” outside.

“At first we thought it was illuminated. But then we wondered that it was possible in the dry heat of 40C?”

Doctors ran outside.

It was then that they heard a few people shouted: “Listen, go here, a plane crashed into our building.”

The next few minutes were blurring. The chaos scenes went down to campus when people were running, trying to escape – or find out what happened.

The prince of the brothers and the roof of Pani were on bicycles a few meters from the hostel when they heard the noise.

“For a few seconds, we could see something that resembled the wing of the plane,” the BBC Prince was 18 years old.

“We rushed to the scene, but the heat from the blast was intense and we couldn’t enter the hostel. There was a lot of garbage.”

Officials still try to identify the victims of the disaster on Thursday

The brothers, together with several other volunteers from the area, waited for the heat to fall before trying to physically enter the building. They worked with the police to move some of the garbage from the entrance.

When they finally got to the dining room, they couldn’t see anyone.

Dark, thick clouds smoke covered the room. The air smelled of burned metal. The brothers, who went to the cricket a few minutes before they headed for the cricket, began to remove culinary gas cylinders to avoid further explosions, a 20 -year -old roof.

Then the brothers and other volunteers noticed a bunch of suitcases and went to move them. According to them, which unfolded further, it was a twisting in the gut.

Behind them, they began to disassemble the form of people.

Most were alive. Some had spoons full of food in his hand, some had food plates in front of them, and some had glasses in his hand.

They all received severely wounded.

They were also silent, shocked. A few minutes before they had a normal day. Now they were surrounded by burned metal pieces of planes.

“They did not even have the opportunity to react,” said another doctor who was in a nearby building.

Among those who managed to escape, a second -year student who lives in a dorm.

He sat in his usual place – a big table on the corner of the riot, next to one of the walls – with nine others when the plane crashed.

“There was a huge blow and a terrible scream.” The fire and smoke of the broken plane were close to our face, and it was difficult to breathe. “

As a result of the accident, he received serious breast wounds and still undergo treatment at a local hospital. And he doesn’t know what happened to his friends.

Many eyewitnesses told the BBC that the massive wing of the plane was first punched through the roof followed by the fuselage. Damage was the most serious where the wing fell.

In chaos, the students started jumping with such high and third floors to escape. Later, students told how one of the united ladders was blocked by garbage.

It is unknown how many people died on earth.

But how much and who was killed, it can take a few days to set: investigators need to hope for DNA to formally identify the bodies found in the wreckage.

And at that moment, not only people in the dining room were killed.

A few kilometers was Ravi Takur, who worked in the dormitory kitchen. It came out to deliver the lunch boxes in other hostels around the city. His wife and their two -year -old daughter remained behind as usual.

Hearing the news, he rushed back, but found full chaos. It took about 45 minutes, and the place was full of locals, firefighters, ambulance workers and Air India staff.

He tried to look for his wife and child, but couldn’t find them.

Returning to the main hospital block, the teachers still try to comprehend the chaos.

“I used to teach these students and knew them personally. The affected students were still treated at the hospital, and they are our priority at the moment,” one professor said at the BBC College.

Meanwhile, Ravi Takur is still looking for his loved ones, even when his hopes are quickly disappearing.
