Gautam Gambhir’s position as the main coach of India is threatened, as BCCI’s former president Sourav Ganguly has openly expressed his interest in this position. Sourav Ganguly previously moved away from high pressure paper due to other responsibilities, but is now ready for work.
Gangul, one of the most influential cricketing minds in India and one of the most successful captains, has served as chair of the Bengal Cricket Association (CAP), President of BCCI, Delhi Capitals Advisor and Mentor in the IPL and coach at the women’s Premier League.

Gangul’s sudden interest comes at a time when all eyes were in Gautam Gambhir, as he struggles to replicate his white ball success in the test cricket as the main coach of India.
PTI said that Sourav Ganguly said, “I never really thought (coaching the Indian team) because I had different roles. I finished in 2013 and then turned to CAB president and then to the Board (BCCI).

Red ball discomfort put Gautam Gambhir under the scanner
There are already reports that the BCCI is supporting Gambhir for the moment, as the failures of the red ball have put their position under the radar. Under Gambhir’s orientation, blue men succeeded in white ball cricket, but has not yet shown their leadership in the test cricket.

India has already lost the series of tests against New Zealand at home and then the border-Gavaskar trophy in Australia for the first time in a decade under Gambhir. So, if the team continues to decrease in the traditional format of the game, Ganguly could arise as a serious alternative, providing experience, calm leadership and a demonstrated understanding of the testing of the test cricket.
And now Gangul has openly expressed his interest in coaching the Indian team, Gambhir has to provide desirable results to the five -game test series in England. Another loss of test series could be too expensive for Gambhir to maintain their role among the formats of the game.

Gangul, meanwhile, defended Gambhir and said that the coach will learn and grow over time. Gangul praised Gambhir’s passion and honesty and also wished him the best for the trip.
Gangul said in the same interview: “I see him now. He is very passionate. He is simple. He is open about everything, and says that things, people, teams, players, and from the outside he feels a very simple person. You get what you see. I wish you all the best. But just like everyone else, she will also learn and grow.”
