Ivan Rakitic has questioned Real Madrid’s decision to allow Luka Modric to leave.
Modric brought an emotional farewell to the Santiago Bernabeu fans on Saturday In the Victory over Real Sociedad and he will officially leave the Club after the Club World Cup this summer.
The reports suggested that the 39-year-old was eager to stay in Madrid, but this idea was rejected by the new CAP Xabi Alonso, as he wants to review his midfield and focus on younger players.
Croatian companion Rakitic, who had a successful spell in the rivals of Madrid Barcelona, as well as in Seville, believes that it could be a mistake.
Rakitic, now playing Hajduk Split, told El Party, “It made me very sad, because we all want to continue enjoying Luka, but Luka in Madrid. Imagining a Madrid without him is quite complicated.
“Madrid had great players, such as Cristiano Ronaldo or Sergio Ramos, but Luka was different. Everyone loved him. Modric needed Madrid and vice versa.”
Modric, who joined Madrid in 2012 and won four titles in the league and six crowns in the Champions League, apparently does not plan to withdraw and has already been related to a transfer to Inter Miami to play with Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
Also Captain Croatia will be in the finals of the World Cup next summer, assuming that they are classified.
Rakitic added, “It makes me a little sad. The only thing I told you on the phone is that I hope you continue to enjoy it and I hope you can bring our team to the World Cup.
“I was really surprised, to say -the truth. But for me, the important thing as a friend is that he is happy.”
