Nigerian Afropop Star Tems told BBC “People don’t really respect women” in its industry.
The two -time Grammy winner told the BBC that she tried to take seriously at the beginning of her career.
“I realized that there is always the price. There is always the price you pay. And many such prices I didn’t want to pay and there were no options,” the timing said.
Over the last decade, Afropop has gained a huge global popularity, but despite this growth, it remains sad where men prevail.
The so -called “Big Troika” – Burna Boy, Davido and Wizkid – all men – while their women’s colleagues such as Tiwa Savage and EnThey spoke about the barriers they face from their gender.
Earlier this year, Tems made negative comments about her body that were made on the Internet after the video about its performance was posted on X.
She wrote on the social media platform: “It’s just a body, I will add and lose weight. I never hid my body, I just felt the need to prove or challenge anyone. The more you don’t like my body, the better for me.”
Tems told the BBC that he wanted to “change how women see themselves in music,” and hopes to achieve this through her new platform leading the Vibe initiative.
The project is aimed at providing opportunities for young women in Africa’s music industry.
“I promised myself that when I get to a place where I can do more, I will make this initiative for women like me, and may facilitate women access to platforms and access a wide audience and success,” the timing said.
The initiative began on Friday in the Task, Lagos. Vocalists, songwriters and producers were invited to a number of seminars, skill classes and panel discussions, all for the purpose of developing skills and connections.
Asked what advice she will give young women who want to crack the branch, she replied: “I think it is important to have an idea of what you want for yourself what your brand is.
“What are the things you would not have done for the glory and things you would do?”

“It’s not all who love music. If I wasn’t known, I was still engaged in music. I would be in some jazz club … by chance on Friday night,” she said.
But this is far from the reality theme. Five years with her debut EP she collaborated with Biones and Rihanna, she has collected more than 17 million monthly listeners at Spotify and International Festivals.
And next month it will support the British band Coldplay during the running concerts at the Uaml Britain stadium.
Tems puts their success on “true” and “brazen”.
“Even when people tell you to change your sound, change your style, you look at them and say,” No. “If it meant that I didn’t sign, I wasn’t okay that I didn’t subscribe. I went in a couple of places that didn’t sign me, and I was fine,” she said.
Music is not the only admiration for Tems – she is an avid football fan and recently won the American football club San Diego FC.
“I never imagined how I owned or engaged in the possession of any football team,” she said, adding that her brother initially entered sports.
Tems joined African Basketball League associated with the NBA.
The participation of the topic with the San Diego gives her hope that “people can be bold enough to try things that no one ever thought it is possible.”
She said, “I don’t see myself just a singer, just a musician, just an artist. I’m much more.”
