The new trailer for The Last of Us Season 2 asks if we’re ready to get hurt again

During CES, Sony and Cheeky dog has revealed a new trailer for the second season of HBO’s Emmy-winning series The last of uswith Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. And now we know when it comes out.

It’s our first look at the future of the show since a teaser trailer was released in late September. The two-minute teaser, which drew several referential parallels to its 2020 Game of the Year-winning progenitor, picks up five years after the climatic events of the first season. In it, we see the found-family relationship of Joel (Miller) and Ellie (Ramsey) unravel as the couple grows beyond that monumental moment in the season one finale.

Unfortunately, the old adage of no rest for the wicked extends to the dead and the living as the duo fight to survive. As with his first season, time will tell if the next season of The last of us will dogmatically follow the story beats of its source material or play with them in inventive and expansive ways. Let’s hope for the latter.

Joining Pascal and Ramsey to round out the show’s cast are Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina (Ellie’s new love interest), and Young Mazino as Jesse. Similar to the previous season with video game actors Joel and Ellie Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson in cameos, the second season of The last of us you will see Jeffrey Wright reprising his role of Isaac from the game. Additional cast members for the season include Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and other actors Gabriel Luna and Rutina Wesley as and Tommy and Mary, respectively.

In the review of io9 of The last of uswe praised the show as the best video game adaptation ever, writing: “The season has a few peaks and valleys, but the valleys are never so low, and the peaks are incredibly high, resulting in a phenomenal season of television, destined to be one of the best of the year.”

The last of us The second season is scheduled to premiere on HBO and Max sometime soon April.
