The most pirated TV series of 2024 was…

U dynasty of not paying for travels in Westeros continued in 2024. After a six-year run from 2012-2017 when Game of Thrones he was the most hacked show on the Internet, its successor House of the Dragon took the dubious title in 2022 and now, once moreit tops the list in 2024.

The news comes from TorrentFreakwhich notes that the rankings are based on traffic from BitTorrent. It’s a solid indicator, but only a small part of the actual number of things hacked from other sites that obviously don’t report viewing. Also, this list doesn’t include most anime, which probably skews the ranking a bit. However, here is the list.

  1. House of the Dragon (HBO)
  2. The Boys (Prime Video)
  3. Shogun (Hulu)
  4. Arcane (Netflix)
  5. The Penguin (HBO)
  6. Fall out (Prime Video)
  7. Reacher (Prime Video)
  8. Silo (Apple TV+)
  9. Dune: Prophecy (HBO)
  10. hello (Paramount+)

A few things here. First of all, pay for your shows. We don’t condone piracy and we think people put in their time and effort to make great stuff for you, you should thank them by getting it legally. That said, we understand that hacking is a fact of life these days and something that many people do regularly. We also find many things on this list fascinating. For example, which is so gender-specific not only this year, but most years. It clearly speaks to a certain type of fan who pirates TV shows. Anyone who loves sci-fi, fantasy, superheroes, video games, etc.

It’s also interesting to think about where the shows come from. TorrentFreak notes that in 2023, Netflix had no shows on the list, but this year it has Arcane. Because Netflix has such a large market share of streamers, the thought was perhaps less susceptible to piracy, but clearly, this is not the case. Maybe it was just that last year he didn’t have a show that internet pirates cared about. We venture to guess, with Squid game now back, Stranger Things Coming back, and more, 2025 sees Netflix here more consistently.

The list also, in a certain way, talks about which services are not paid. Prime Video wildly leads the pack with three shows. You might expect it to be the one most people have, simply because it comes with other benefits like Prime shipping on Amazon. HBO has two shows and while pirates certainly aren’t paying for cable, they might be paying for their slightly less expensive streaming service, Max. Then of course there are Apple TV+ and Paramount+ which both make more sense because they are definitely on the smaller side in comparison. It’s a lot to digest.

Does anything on the list surprise you? What do you think will come out on top this year? Let us know below.
