Mighty Morphin ‘Power Rangers was one of the largest phenomena of the 90s sci-fi pop culture for children. If you weren’t around then, you can’t understand the Gargantuan effect that the show had on its target audience.
The successful TV series – who adapted photos from the Japanese show Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger – Ultimately, it led to a pair of feature films released theatrically. And both of them are big stink.
I say that as someone who saw those two films in the theater and loved them as a child, and I own the Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger Series on DVD.
I only found a different Japanese import I found a series much better than Power Rangers (Sorry, Tommy), and led me to a film that scratches that monster, mega-smashing much better.
It’s time to get a bio-boost Guyver: a dark hero.
The Guyver originated as the manga Bio-Booster Armor Guyver by Yoshiki Takaya who ultimately made his way anime Through the original 1986 video animation (OVA) and a series of Ovas starting in 1989. Both of these anime projects are amazing and worth looking for classic anime fans sci-fi Action and Violence.
By 1991, an American film version of The guyver Produced, co-directed by Steve Wang and one of my favorite artists ever, screaming Mad George, best known for his work practical effects in films such as Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master and Society.
Unfortunately, The guyver (1991) Falls flat in many ways, but surpasses its suits and effects. If you would like to hear a detailed review of that film, check out the Genevision Film Club episode on The guyver Wherever you get your podcasts.
All you need to know about the basic story is that a young man named Sean Barker finds alien A piece of technology that bonds with it, giving it a ultra-powered suit that is primary for beating the shape of Kronos corporation change monsters called zoanoids.
The guyver successful enough in release for a sequence made. Selling and renting home video was certainly what made this happen. Ugh, we used to live in a world where a low budget genre flic is exhausted The guyver He could have a sequel thanks to the video store.
Guyver: a dark hero drops the “The” from the title among some other cuts from the first film. Screaming Mad George did not return to Direct, leaving Steve Wang as the only director credited for the second record. This comes with a downgrade in the effects but not to a deal breakdown. It is also clear Guyver: a dark hero He has an even lower budget than the first film, but Wang is more than skilled in making his budget work for it.
Also absent the previous main actor Jack Armstrong, replaced by…
David Hayter?!?
Yes, a solid snake himself, the man with screen credits X-Men 2 and Viewer steps into the role of Sean Barker. And look, I’m realistic. I don’t ask for Daniel Day-Lewis’s standard acting in a film like this, but Hayter nails so good soap opera Gruff. It’s lovely. I could watch him whipping his head around to send a line of dialogue over and over again.
That piece of dear Silliness aside, Guyver: a dark hero Takes a much more consistent mood than the previous film, whose humor is easily worst attribute for several reasons. I’m willing to bet the movie makers behind Guyver: a dark hero Want to start the film with a mission statement on how this would go to be simpler on the character. That is why there is an opening view Guyver: a dark hero a stereotypical scene but effectively executed “Hero Stops and Durbe Deal”, along with sending a violent evil man.
In addition to the toner upgrade, Guyver: a dark hero Gone for breaking with its violence, winning the first film’s PG-13 score. And if you love some wonderful violence overwhelming, this film fulfills and achieves. Part of the Guyver appeal, starting in the original manga, is the scandal levels of violence that deals with the zoanoids by the Guyver. The original film never seemed to be interested in capturing that attitude, likely because she aimed at that PG-13 score.
Fortunately, the sequence is also much more fighting film than the first film as well. In fact, this film is the origin for the movement of a specific martial arts performance.
This incredible move has been popularized by fighting artists like Scott Adkins and is known as Guyver’s kick. When your film finishes creating a permanent combat movement in a martial arts culture, I called that a big victory.
Now, I’m not here to announce Guyver: a dark hero as some forgotten masterpiece. It’s a small movie about silly things like alien sessions and impaired monsters. I love those things but I also recognize his inherent youth nature in something like Guyver: a dark hero.
And that’s why I’ve come to embrace Guyver: a dark hero as something of Power Rangers movie. What we know as Power Rangers is part of a long -standing series in Japan called Super Sentai, dating back to 1975. Super Sentai was created by Shotaro Ishinomori that also created the popular Kamen Rider series, something that has a direct influence on the Guyver.
Apart from that connection, Guyver: a dark hero Simply put, it works on a basic level of sci-fi fantasy fighting against fun, although it is not shaded by the kind of amusing lameness with things like a horrific CG or the character of an annoying child.
Sure, the bare pencileck villain could be completely better, but I will take it in trade for the final Bos of Guyver Zoanoid that finishes melt into a nightmare dessert before being exploded away by the guyver boob laser canon.
Man, I love movies.
Unfortunately, Guyver: a dark hero He does not seem to have the love he deserves in terms of availability and conservation. The first film received a tremendous collector edition relief on Ultra High Definition 4K with plenty of special features for fans. I hope the same is in the works for the sequel because it’s a much better and even more beloved movie among Guyver fans. I would be happy to contribute as I want everyone to have a chance to see this pearl at its best.
I would recommend seeing both films just because Guyver: a dark hero is a direct sequence that does not do the best job of being a point of access for new -entrants. Or hey, jump right into the sequence and reach the good things.
Time for you to run into the comments and tell us if you have seen Guyver: a dark heroyour thoughts on it and another Guyver Media. Anime 2005 is fine but I’m not crazy about it. Like this video? Then, like this video! Subscribe to the channel and maybe we can pull the Evil Kronos corporation together here on a huge freakin robot.
