The Jessica Simpson Family Guide: Meet Her Sister, 3 Kids and More

Jessica SimpsonA famous family has been making headlines throughout the years.

After Jessica came to prominence in 1999 with the release of her first album Sweet Kisseshis younger sister, Ashley Simpsonshe served as one of her backup dancers before embarking on her own career in the music industry.

While continuing to pursue her music career, Jessica got married Nick Lachey in 2002 and became the star of the MTV reality series Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. After the couple’s divorce in 2005, Johnson met Eric Johnson in 2010.

Six months later, Johnson popped the question to Jessica. The couple said “I do” in 2014 and went on to welcome daughter Maxwell, son Ace and daughter Birdie in 2012, 2013, 2019, respectively.

“Being a mother is the best opportunity and challenge I’ve ever been blessed with in life,” says Jessica Us Weekly in May 2018. “Right now, my children are in this amazing phase where I really listen to them without judging and they teach me so much. These innocent little children teach me so much about life.”

In 2025, Jessica shared she and Johnson split.

Tina Ann Drew

Jessica’s mom and dad, Joe Simpsondivorced in 2012. Years later, Jessica reflected on how their separation affected her life.

“I think when your parents are divorced when you’re older, it’s so weird,” Jessica just say Us in March 2021. “I wouldn’t change that, although I feel it makes it harder for me to accept other people in their lives. … I didn’t really know what to do with it. I didn’t know what friendship was, what it wasn’t. I didn’t know if they were still what I was taught and I waited to have sex until they were married.”

Jessica shared in her 2020 memoir, Open Bookthat Joe told her to separate him from Tina when she was in hospital giving birth to their daughter Maxwell. Jessica took her mother’s side in the divorce, which led to tension between her and her father.

“They had been married for thirty-four years, and I had a hard time being around them together because they had stopped loving each other,” she wrote. “I was blindsided by this news, which triggered its natural sales. He presented it to me as a positive thing, ‘You gave me the confidence … You gave me the way out.’ Great, I thought to myself, ‘I broke my own heart.’

Jessica eventually mended her relationship with her father.

Younger sister Ashlee went on to welcome children who are close to Jessica’s children. Ashlee, who welcomed son Bronx in 2008 with ex-husband Pete Wentzby Us in 2012 that Jessica needed some parenting guidance.

“I’m so proud of her!” she said. “There were little things here and there (I was advising her on) that you ask your friends and other mums (about) but other than that, she’s great.”

After splitting from Wentz, Ashlee tied the knot with Evan Ross in 2014. The couple welcomed Jagger in 2015 and Ziggy in 2020.

Eric Johnson

Following his divorce with Keri D’AngeloJohnson met Jessica in 2010 and proposed six months later. The pair tied the knot in 2014 and welcomed Maxwell, Ace and Birdie.

In January 2025, Jessica shared that she and Johnson they went their separate ways. “Eric and I have been living apart navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” she said in a statement to Us. “Our children come first, and we focus on what is best for them. We are grateful for all the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy at this time as we work through this as a family.”
