For the past two weeks, we here at io9 have been looking back at the films, showsand games of 2024, and given our individual takeaways on some tendencies what you do it happened this year. Now is the time to think about what’s coming, and more specifically, what we expect in 2025. Feel free to let us know what are you excited for (and hopefully hitting the mark) in the comments below.
If Of Superman too healthy an option, consider another contender for summer hero: a child-sized AI robot with killer dance moves, killer fashion sense, killer instinctsand (presumably) a murderous revenge in its sequel. M3GAN 2.0 is once again directed by Gerald Johnstone and written by Akeela Cooper, and brings back Gemma (Allison Williams) and Cady (Violet McGraw), plus there will also be a new collection of characters. We have every reason to believe that the return of our beast will be as campy, bloody and shrill as ever – and we are counting the days until June 27, 2025. – Cheryl Eddy
U first Bad swept the movie audience, showing the musical works of the movie if you just come out and say it’s a musical. U follow upwhich expands the second act of the game, it is rumored to include more new ones original music and the events of L. Frank Baum The Wizard of Oz. We are interested to see how Dorothy’s journey will be incorporated alongside Elphaba and Glinda. Also, we have room for more memes. – Sabina Graves
After two movies, I think we can safely stop kidding Avatar. The first movie was good, the second movie was a lot well, and now we wait third partwhich is sure to be one of the biggest hits of the year. In addition, in addition to explaining more world of Pandorait’s always exciting just to see a new James Cameron movie. Especially since with each of these sequels, he continues to push the bar of technology with dynamic, character-driven storytelling. – Germain Lussier
U As well as a Dragon The franchise went from being a niche open-world game series to a household name thanks in significant part to its prequel title, Yakuza 0, and his later entries have an English voice track. While Yakuza purists turn their noses up at the concept, accessibility is essential, and the language barrier is no different. That’s why the developer Ryu Ga Gotoku is coming off a year of releasing three Yakuza games, only to announce a fourth in late 2025 led by the fan-favorite character (and Yakuza 0 limelight stealer) Goro Majima – truly a Kendrick Lamar sequence of events. Plus, the studio, which famously reuses tons of its highly detailed assets to make games so often (we love a conscientious developer), is correcting Ubisoft’s mistake of releasing an unwelcome and long-delayed live-action hack game. Skull and Bones making the hack game it promised Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. At RGG, we trust. – Isaiah Colbert
Prey it was a delight in 2022, and even before it ended, it was clear Predator The franchise was aiming for a comeback. Details on Predator: Badlands have been scarce, except that will do the star alien while Elle Fanning pulls double duty as twin sisters. We will eventually find out what Badlands he has under his belt, and can’t wait to see what he brings to the theaters on November 7, 2025. And it’s not the only one either. Predator girl catch up next year! – Justin Carter
Star Wars has had a bit of a hard time with itself lately, as the series struggles to chart a clear path forward with a vision of what it really wants Star Wars to be. But one of the rare highlights of this malaise to see a clarity of purpose has finally returned, after a delayed wait: Cassian will finally find us all in of Andor second, last season on April 22. Expectations are through the roof after the incredible first seasonand every little tidbit we’ve been teased so far has us hoping for another Andor The high can sustain us long enough to actually make Lucasfilm manage to get a movie in theaters again. – James Whitbrook
As a usual mourning of Titanfall as a video game franchise, any inkling of a new sci-fi mecha game that has the potential to be a spiritual successor while being anime-AF is like catnip to gamers worldwide, and Bandai Namco . Siduality: Echo of Ada could fill those shoes. Its characters look beautiful, its mechs even more so, and its combat clips scratch that itch in the brain of any mecha fan to pilot their giant robot through a barrage of incoming missiles with the assistance of the so congested UI prompts. Let’s hope it lives up to the hype. – Isaiah Colbert
As we saw with Mario, Zelda, and more, Nintendo treats its OG titles with extra care. That is why it will take almost two decades to make a main line Metroid game, one that was announced almost a decade ago. And yes, Metroid Dread it was amazing. Ma First 4 it promises to be much bigger and more ambitious. A real return to the world of Samus Aran in a way that gamers have been waiting for, in some cases, all their lives. – Germain Lussier
U Xenoblade The series has become one of my favorite JRPG sets of all time, but one of its best entries has been locked away on the Wii U for the better part of a decade. It changed with the release of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition on the Switch, which means that, in the end, more people can experience this fascinating refraction of Xenoblade which jukes where the sci-fantasy series usually turns, leaning much more into the old genre to deliver one of Nintendo’s best open-world RPGs. A mech game that really keeps you going away from the giant robots on the cover for the opening half of the game, X offsetting its relatively light narrative pace with a truly remarkable world to explore, one that rewards players willing to engage in exploration with an incredibly rich environment. I can’t wait to have every entry in one of my favorite series finally playable in one place. – James Whitbrook
Last year saw a massive boom in fantasy anime with shows like Freeze: Beyond Journey’s End and Delicious in Dungeon. To complete the trifecta of what has been dubbed as the big fantastic three is the upcoming anime adaptation of Bug Film. Witch hat workshop. While that Freeze and Delicious in Dungeon flourished respectively with their character work and world-building, Witch hat workshop excels at both, with an inventive magic system. Also, the series is loaded with similar themes to the standout 2024 Look backwhich portrays the trials and tribulations of learning a new skill. Rather than tuning into anything Harry Potter slop Warner Bros. makes ad nauseam, reward by doing Witch hat workshop your anime to watch in 2025. – Isaiah Colbert
After facing I believe and Marvel, Ryan Coogler will show his own original version of horror. The prospect of Michael B. Jordan playing twins struggling against something supernatural in their hometown is too good to pass up, and it became even more interesting when the first trailer to blame Add an inevitably incredible score by Ludwig Göransson, and hell yeah, sign up for us Sinners. – Justin Carter
