Netflix’s latest international excitement film Brick It was dropped earlier this month, and although it climbs the streaming charts worldwide, critics do not exactly stack the praise. Brick Currently is the sixth most watched movie on the Streamer, behind only Happy GilmoreConnected content and some random K-pop offerings.
Do not confuse Netflix’s Brick with 2005 film of the same name. That film starred Joseph Gordon-Levitt and was deserving of critical acclaim. Go watch that Brick immediately if you haven’t seen it.
This new Netflix Brick directed by Europa tribes the creator Philip Koch, Brick In the psychological survival story of German language holding her characters, and her viewers, inside four walls and a very frustrating mystery.
The default is slick and immediately: one morning, a couple wakes up to find their flat door completely brick over. An unwanted black wall of strange material is sealed inside. There is no way out, no water, no cell service, and no Explanation.
It is like Cube meet The platformwithout the philosophical punch. Other residents of the building are just as confusing, and as despair becomes established, the group turns to paranoia, violence, and some wild techno theories about what is happening.
Brick Stars of the real -life Matthias Schweighöfer (The army of thieves) and Ruby O. fee (Polar) Like Tim and Liv, a pair that has already been strained by grief after a miscarriage. That emotional trauma forms the background for what becomes a tension and surreal series of encounters inside their blocked flats. There is possibly a radioactive wall, a chilling old man, a couple of drug addicts, and a conspiracy man named Yuri who is either completely crazy or the only one who pays attention.
The film is lovely claustrophobic, shot on location in Prague, with a sharp visual style that elevates its minimalist setup. But while the look is airtight, the script leaks. Early, there is real suspension, until things start to be explained. The film’s critics say the more Brick Conversations, the less you care.
Brick Performed for the first time at Filmfest München in early July and hit Netflix on July 10. Within a week, he cracked the top 10 of Netflix worldwide. That stream Success has not translated into praise. Sits on 43% rough on Rotten tomatoeswith even lower users at 26%. IMDB has it at 5.4/10. Critics call him “GO-UNERE’s high concept thriller.”
Brick Crafted so that it is watchful enough to keep people on the platform. That’s the magic trick of Netflix’s users: even when the story falls apart, you want to see how it ends. Brick is their latest streaming machine. Don’t fall for it.
