ESPN reports that Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney have agreed to drop their lawsuit for 90 days. They have come to an agreement to drop it.
The two fighters are reaching an agreement to fight later this year, and let the legal dispute pave the way for the fight.
The agreement allows the lawsuit to be resolved, but it must be fleshed out. Once completed, the claim will be dismissed. Ryan said that was the condition for him to negotiate a rematch with Haney.
Turki Al-Sheikh wants this rematch. Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) filed a lawsuit after testing positive for the banned substance, Ostarine, following his April 20 win over Devin.
Garcia to take the interim fight
Ryan revealed today that he has a mystery opponent for his next fight, and he “can’t wait” for fans to find out who it is. This is not Haney. There isn’t a high level of interest in a second fight between them after how Ryan eliminated him last April.
He would not fight him again unless he dropped his demand. It makes sense for Haney because he would probably get more money fighting Ryan again than he would with the lawsuit. Without a rematch, Haney would be stuck fighting other fighters for less money and a lot of risk.
Haney is not a great puncher, and his career prospects are not promising at 140 or 147. He did well at first moving up to light welterweight, old Regis Prograis again, but he would have a harder time fighting other fighters who they still are. at their best and they can hit.
That’s why he has to get the rematch with Ryan. Even if your career collapses immediately afterward, you’ll have that big payday to live with for the rest of your life.
