The first Black Republican Congress dies

Mia Law, the first American Black Republican Congress, died at the age of 49 in Utah, her family announced.

On Sunday, she died peacefully surrounded by a family in her home in Saratoga, Saratg, the statement said.

Love, daughter of Haitian immigrants, represented Utah’s staff in the House of Representatives.

Her daughter Ajigal said that at the beginning of this month, love no longer responded to brain cancer treatment.

“In the midst of celebrating her life and avalanche of happy memories, Miya quietly slipped in mortality groups and, as her words and vision always took off in heaven,” the family, which was posted on X.

Paying tribute to Lyubov, the governor of Utus Spencer Cox wrote: “The real leader of the trader and visionary, Miya inspired countless Yutan because of the courage, mercy and unwavering faith in the American dream.

“Her legacy leaves a strong, positive effect on our condition. We will miss it deep.”

Mi Law’s political career officially began in 2003 when she won a place in the City Council of Saratoga -Springs, and then became a mayor, 34 years old.

In 2014, it was elected to the House of Representatives. The daughter of Haitian immigrants, she created history as the first black republican woman who took over the role and served two terms.

Her application for re -election in four years ended with such a defeat from her democratic competitor Ben Makads.

In 2022, in love, the glyoblastoma was diagnosed with a rapidly driving and aggressive form of brain cancer and received 10-15 months for life-something it was superior.

Her death comes almost two weeks after love wrote Thinking for Deseret NewsWhat, she said, was “not to say goodbye, but to say thank you and express my living desire for you and America I know.”
