The legendary Indian Cricter and the World Cup winner, Kapil Dev, supported the Kohli shot position on the new BCCI family travel policy. Kohli, who is preparing for the IPL 2025, had criticized the Cricket Control Council in India (BCCI) for implementing the rule, which has provoked divided opinions.
Following the loss of the Indian Testing series in Australia, the BCCI introduced new restrictions on family visits during visits. For visits for more than 45 days, players can join their families only after the first two weeks, with a maximum stay of 14 days. Family visits are allowed for up to a week on shorter tours.
During the RCB Innovation Summit Indian Sports Summit before the IPL 2025, Kohli shared that it is difficult to convey the fundamental effect of returning to his family in the midst of external pressures.
“It is very difficult to tell people how it is the basis of returning to your family every time you have something intense outside.
Wanted Kohli, like many Indian batters, fought during the challenging series of evidence against Australia. He scored only 190 runs in five games, including a century. The defeat of the series also raised doubts about Rohit Sharma’s future in the test cricket.
Kapil Dev stated that the decision on family presence during visits is finally to the Cricket Board. Although he acknowledged the importance of the family, he emphasized that a team is needed all the time.
“Well, I don’t know, this is individual. I think it’s the call of the cricket board. My opinion is that yes, you need the family. But you also need a team, all the time,” said the winner of the 1983 World Cup, talking outside the “Kapil Dev Grant Grant Sub Grant Invitational event.
Players like Kohli, Ravindra Jadja and Mohammed Shami made their families accompanying them to Dubai during the recent champions trophy. However, they stayed separately from the team of a different hotel. The players covered the expenses for the accommodation of their families, instead of the BCCI.
Kapil Dev shared that during their game days, the players themselves decided that the first half of a tour should be dedicated to the Cricket, while the second half could be reserved for family visits. He emphasized that it should be a balanced approach.
“In our time, he told us ourselves, not the Cricket board, that the first half of the tour should be Cricket and, in the second half, the family should come to enjoy -too. It should be a mixture,” Kapil said.
Virated Kohli is preparing for its 18th IPL season in 2025. It will be seen in action for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on March 22 when they play against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
