The dead after the car was driven into the crowd in Vancouver

“Many people were killed” after the car was put into a crowd in the Canadian city of Vancouver, local police said.

Vancouver police said “several others” were injured during the incident at the street festival on Saturday night.

Power said the driver is in custody.

It is not yet known how many people were killed.

In a report to X, police said “the driver entered the crowd at the Festival on E. 41st Avenue and Fraser” shortly after 20:00 local time on Saturday (03:00 GMT on Sunday).

“We will provide additional information if the investigation is unfolding,” the statement reads.

Local media reports that a pedestrian group got into a car during the Lapu Lapu Festival, which marks the Philippine culture.

Untested staff on social networks showed a number of police cars, ambulances and fire trucks at the scene, and the affected people lie on the ground.
