The breakfast club Following five teenagers from very different backgrounds – Brian Johnson (Hall), Andrew Clark (Estevevez), Allison Reynolds (Sheedy), Claire Standish (Ringwald) and John Bender (Nelson) – as they gathered in Fictional Shermer High School Library to serve Saturday from 7 for 4 pm
“This is one of those movies that stand the test of time,” said Estevevez The breakfast club. “It’s a cross -generation film … we were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.”
Ringwald, 57, noted that during the panel that Saturday marks the first time Estevevez joined the rest of the cast for a reunion, by joking, “We no longer have to use the cardboard cut. I feel like I’ve really moved that we’re all together.”
During the panel, the cast reminisced with the audience about working with Hughes, which is along with The breakfast club have directed other iconic movies as Sixteen candles (1984) and Pretty in pink (1986). (Hughes died in 2009 at the age of 59)
“Hughes meant when he told us to take part in the process of making this film,” said Nelson, 65, about the late Director on Saturday. “He liked us, I didn’t know how rare he would go to a director as actors … he is the first writer who could write a young character without them being less.”
Ringwald, for her part, reflected on what was to re -watch The breakfast club with her daughter. (Ringwald shares the daughter of Mathilda, 20, and Adele and Roman twins, 15, with her husband Panio Gianopoulos.)
“My raising children changed, watching with her … but how she spoke to, what character she identified with and why, opened this amazing conversation,” shared Ringwald. “If you had told me when I was 16, one day I would watch that movie with my 10 year old and changed the way I am a parent … it’s just a thought.”
