IndiaThe 336 emphatic victory in the second test in Edgbaston not only level 1-1 series, but also witnessed a legendary personal performance of the captain Shubman gillwhich accumulated 269 and 161, the most traveled by an Indian captain in one test. But what the headlines did out of the field was the time of Gill’s light at the post-party press conference, where he called on the BBC journalist Joe Wilsonwho had previously created the poor history of India in Edgbaston.
After the historic victory of his side, Gill entered the press conference with a wide smile, clearly enjoying the moment. Directing in the room, he took a playful game in Wilson de la BBC, which had referred to the Indian loss record in Edgbaston before the game.
“I can’t see my favorite journalist. Where is it? I wanted to see him” Gill said.
The Indian test pattern, Gill followed her with a sharp statement but composed of why past statistics did not bother this Indian side:
“I even said before the test game that I really do not believe in history and statistics. For the past 56 years or so, we have played nine games, different teams have come here. I think we are the best team we have come here in England and we have the ability to overcome them, to win the series here. Gill concluded.
Prior to the game, Wilson had pointed out the historically poor record of India in Edgbaston, where they had never won a test. Instead of stepping on the statistics, Gill grabbed it and used it as a silent motivation. After writing one of the most dominant battle exhibitions for an abroad, his return to the media room was as assertive as his cover.
Wilson, the man in the center of Gill’s press room, gracefully responded in an interview with Revsportz, recognizing Gill’s point and praising his leadership:
“What the Captain said in a very sensible way, was that if you looked back in the 1960’s, seventy, even in the 1980’s, let’s say -there was a different sensation from the Indian team when traveling abroad. Being No. 1,”
When asked if he would repeat this comment ahead of the Lord’s test, Wilson added:
“I would say something to motivate him, perhaps, who knows it. I think he is a real knight. He answers all the questions with great dignity. We love to talk about statistics, wasn’t it?
With the level of the series and the impulse of the side of India, all eyes head to Lord’s, where the Third test begins on July 10. Gill, after conquering Edgbaston, has a new challenge, to sign up for his name in the Mecca del Cricket, where legends are made and every century becomes a legacy.
