Police in Texas is looking for a man who, according to them, was “mistaken” from prison when he was supposed to start a seven -year term.
The 36 -year -old Tori Dugas was sentenced to five years in prison for attacking a family member and two years for evading arrest, Harris’s sheriff said.
Instead, Dugas, who was in the Harris district prison on Thursday on other charges that were fired, came out on Sunday at 4:30 local time.
A thorough investigation is underway to determine the cause of his “misconception” from prison, Sheriff’s office said.
It looks like the detention center staff did not “properly document their state imprisonment in their file,” the office reports, statement. This led to the assumption that Dugas had the right to release.
Police spokesman Jason Spencer was cited by the Houston Chronicle Saying that the detention center did not understand that Dugas went missing until Monday morning, when officials were checking the list of people intended for transfer to state care.
Police asked the public to contact them when they noticed the Dugas.
This is not the first time the Harris district was mistaken in prison.
Earlier this year, a man arrested on accusation of capital murder was released from prison after he was confused for someone else with the same name. However, the man entered after free for 24 hours.
