For Boxing news – 23/12/2024 – comments Subriel Matias and Teofimo Lopez are close to a deal for a March 15 fight for Teo’s WBO 140-pound title on ESPN PPV. Former IBF light welterweight champion Matias (21-2, 21 KOs) will look to become a two-time 140-pound champion against Lopez. Closing of the offer Matchroom-promoted Matias has fought once since losing the IBF belt to Liam Paro on June 15, and is looking to dethrone Lopez. “Teofimo López and Subriel Matias are finalizing a deal for a March 15 fight for López’s WBO junior welterweight title, sources told ESPN. Fight will headline ESPN+ PPV. There is no spot for this yet action fight between one of the best fighters in the sport and a former champion,” Mike Coppinger told X. Teofimo has been pushing for a big fight for the past four years, but his promoters haven’t offered him anything convincing. Matias might be the best Lopez can hope for right now until something opens up for him. A loss to Matias would be devastating for Lopez, who has won his last five fights since his loss to George Kambosos Jr. on November 27, 2021.
