Tell me Lies continues to push boundaries now that it has been renewed for a third season.
Based on A Loving Carolnovel of the same name, Tell me Lies follows the messy relationship between Lucy’s college students (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen (Jackson White). Their a problematic on-and-off romance finally lasting eight years – and everyone around them is affected by Lucy and Stephen’s moods.
Season 2 raised the stakes after showcasing Lucy and Stephen’s first breakup. At first they were at odds trying to move on but the pair reconciled past and present timeline while in relation to other people.
The drama escalated when Lucy and Stephen got back together at college – and it was revealed that she had previously taken up with her friend Evan (Brandon Cook). He seemed to take the news well – until Tell me Lies jump to today during Evan’s wedding to Lucy’s friend Bree (Missal Cat). No one could find Stephen as Cat received a voicemail from Evan confessing to cheating on her with Lucy.
Season 3, which has been ordered by Hulu, is expected to pick up right after Cat finds out about Lucy’s betrayal. It also remains to be seen if Lucy breaks things off with Stephen for goodness sake in the current timeline while viewers are still watching them crash and burn in the past.

Hulu renewed Tell me Lies in December 2024. In addition to White and Van Patten, Missal, Ty Spencer, Sonia MenaCook and Alicia Crowder they are expected to return.
“I always had a sense of where they are in 2015 and what their dynamics are and what secrets everyone has. Once you at least know what people know and what they don’t know, that gives you a lot of room to play,” showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer says exclusively Us Weekly in October 2024 for juggling two timelines. “But the way we built it is we definitely did the 2008 storyline first in the room. We mapped out the whole season and then we made 2015 its own thing.”
Oppenheimer continued: “I knew where I wanted to end the season, though, in 2015. I knew where it needed to be.”
Drew came back into Wrigley’s life at the end of season 2 after a year-long estrangement. Their reunion took a turn when Drew mixed alcohol with some pills that Wrigley gave him and he eventually died from overdose.
“It’s killing him. It is not on purpose. And people who work on the show will disagree with me, but Wrigley is with his brother in a bar,” House noted Us in October 2024. “He gives him a pill that’s not prescribed and it kills him. So he kills his brother. He doesn’t mean it but that’s something he’s always going to carry with him for the rest of his life.”
Despite a flash on showing Wrigley in a dark place, Ty I hope it will to a better place.
“Now that we’ve done the spiral (with him), I’d like to see some sort of path in a positive direction. We know how that ends,” House told us in reference to the show’s timeline today not allowing much growth for Wrigley. “It’s a little bit on everything that happens. It’s up to the writers, but I’d love to do something different than another spiral. I love doing it, but I’d like to see hope.”
He added: “Maybe in a story in 2015 you’d see if it’s getting better. But also we don’t spend a lot of time there, so I don’t know how they’re going to do it. I’ll do my job as always, and we’ll see how it goes.”
“I haven’t planned it but I think everyone would probably like to see Bree get some sort of revenge,” Oppenheimer teased Us about how Bree will handle the revelation about Evan and Lucy. “Because she has really been made dirty by everyone. She deserves it, and she probably wants it.”
Bree had a secret romance with his teacher, which ended in season 2. After Bree receives calls on her wedding day from a mysterious person, the Tell me Lies cast and crew lean in on a It was Oliver.
“I don’t know those voicemails are from Oliver. That’s probably what people think, but I think it’s probably more surprising than that,” Oppenheimer said. Us.
Missal added, “It’s a bit juicy, isn’t it? I’m going to let people have their theories and we’ll kind of see how it plays out. It’s very exciting not knowing and being surprised by what’s going on.”
Ellis agreed that viewers will have to “wait and see” how the story develops.
According to the current timeline, Pippa and Diana start dating – but will they do it in the long run?
“Man, I hope so. That would be cool. I think they both deserve it,” Crowder said exclusively Us in October 2024. “Both have been through so much because of external factors, but also because of this group of people. I really hope so and it looks like they are in a good place. Obviously no relationship is perfect and we have some issues that we are working through.”
However, Mena wasn’t sure based on the other Tell me Lies couples, adding, “But nobody is ever happy on this show.”
Despite Leo’s arc seemingly coming to an end, Doherty don’t rule out return, say Us in December 2024, “Leo may not be all he seems. There’s a lot to do with it.”
He continued: “I wasn’t too surprised about the fans’ reaction to my character. After season 1, Leo slotted into that gap. It made sense. What surprised me was all the outpouring of love. It’s very overwhelming at times.”
After Tell me Lies renewed, Oppenheimer signed an overall deal with 20th TV, part of Disney Television Studios.
“Meaghan has shepherded Tell Me Lies for two highly addictive seasons that sparked an incredible wave of obsessive fandom and social conversation,” President of 20th Television Karey Burke He said in a December 2024 statement. “We’re thrilled to have her officially in the studio fold and at the helm for another dramatic season.”
