Mellencamp has been battling a myriad of health issues since confirming in October 2022 that it has a Phase II melanoma, a type of skin cancer. Learned subsequently that the disease had moved on to stage melanoma IV, which was metastasized to her lungs and brain.
When Mellencamp underwent surgery in February 2025, Arroyave told his Instagram followers that he depend on “faith” to get himself and his children through the health crisis of his disengaged wife.
“When you really think of faith, faith is just a projection of the most positive thing for the future, against the opposite, is fear,” he told Instagram fans. “Fear is the projection of the worst possible thing for the future.”
“So when you think about it, the two have not happened yet,” he continued. “It’s up to you to decide if you are going to choose to be positive or if you are going to choose to be negative. And it takes the same amount of mental energy to focus on failure than it is to focus on success. So I’ve always chosen faith no matter what I feel, no matter what it looks like, I choose faith.”
Earlier in April, Arroyave Offer an update On how his family coped with a brave Mellencamp battle for her life.
“No matter what, I will always love Teddy and she’s been a big part of my life,” Arroyave, 47, revealed on “The Eds” podcast on April 3. “And I like to care for people, just what I do. So even as a question, it wasn’t a reflexive.
