Tears and heart gap over the tragic history of the South African girl sold by her mother

Their second child – she and her older brother, who is now 11 years old, were affected by the social worker who testified during the trial.

“This is a much more crisis than police statistics actually shows us because many cases are not reported,” she said to the BBC.

She said that in the case of Joshlin, it was unusual that he had seized the whole nation.

“I have never seen the case in South Africa undermined, as we did not see such a great search for the missing child. I think social media played a big role (and) political parties participated in this case.”

According to the South African website News IOL, last year 632 children disappeared and 8 743 over the past 10 years.

A poem written by the 14-year-old daughter of Ms Andrew Tayla was also closed in court. It described her pain without knowing what happened to Joshlin and her hopes she was safe.

“We just want to hug you again,” Ms Andrew said in her statement. “You are our flower, our baby and our green baby.”
