Taylor Kitsch a Kyle Chandler well aware of the Friday Night Lights reboot, but were they approached to resume their roles?
“I was asked and I’ll leave it at that,” teased Kitsch, 43, appearing on SiriusXM’s The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw on Tuesday, January 7. “But I’m good. I’ve always smiled. Never say never.”
Kitsch played Dillon Panthers bad boy linebacker Tim Riggins (#33) on all five seasons of Friday Night Lightswhich aired on NBC from 2006 to 2011.
“I’d come in and do something, maybe for an episode or something, but I don’t want to go and do the whole thing. I was just going to have fun,” Kitsch explained on Tuesday. “But I don’t want to lead FNL or reboot or anything. I love the ongoing challenging roles and keep pushing.”
When asked if he would prefer to return as Riggins or as a new character, Kitsch said he “could do both” if the opportunity arose.
“Hopefully I could create something that could be quite fun. But I think if you saw me as someone else, you’d be like, ‘That’s Riggins,'” the actor continued. “Especially in that element if you’re in Texas or doing it the way they’re going to do it. I’d maybe go play another team’s coach or something and be on screen for, like, eight seconds.”
Kitsch said it would be fun to have “a little” nod to his beloved character before putting the episode behind him.
Future news Friday Night Lights reboot broke in November 2024with Closing date report that the original creators of the show – Jason Katims, Pete Berg a Brian Grazer — everyone was part of the project. While the series is still set in the world of high school football, viewers will be introduced to a new cast of characters.
Unlike his former costar Kitsch, Chandler, 59, has yet to receive the call to return as fan favorite coach Eric Taylor.
“I haven’t. No calls. Nothing,” Chandler said during a Wednesday, January 8, appearance on the Today show “I don’t know what I will say (if asked).”
Chandler previously said that being the lead of the show taught him lessons about acting that he has taken to every job since.
“That was probably one of the best acting classes I’ve ever had. It was very enjoyable,” he said Entertainment Weekly in 2018. “I have shared some of the things I learned from that job with other people, and they have thanked me for it.”
