Gervonta Davis says he’ll fight Ryan Garcia again, “tax his a**,” but wants $150 million for the rematch. That’s his firm asking price, and he’ll be waiting for it to ship before he agrees to fight the young social media star again.
Two years ago, Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) knocked out Garcia in the seventh round, albeit with the benefit of two prong weight stipulations of a catch weight of 136 pounds and a rehydration limit of 10 pounds.
Amazingly, Ryan (24-1, 20 KOs) accepted both, and that was his undoing as the death seemed to heat up during the fight. He looked thin and sickly.
Tank and his management took hold of Garcia, who at the time was desperate and naive about the world, and foolishly agreed. What a dummy I bet Tank and his team were laughing at Ryan when he accepted that handicap.
The tank’s $150 million fantasy
“I’m gonna record this ** again. Tell the boys to give me $150 million. I’m coming,” Gervonta Davis said on Instagram. Tell them to send this bag and I’ll come.”
For a rematch to have any chance of happening, the 30-year-old Gervonta will have to drop his demands for a cool $150 million and back down on the weight handicaps he might feel he needs to gain an advantage.
Is KingRy the A side?
A lot has changed since Davis fought Ryan in 2023, and Kingry’s popularity has skyrocketed beyond where the Baltimore native is right now. In any case, it would be Garcia as part A of the negotiations.
On the money side, Tank could get lucky and get paid $30 million if Turki Al-Shiekh gets involved to help fight him and Garcia.
Davis has hurt his career by fighting just once since his win over Garcia, choosing Frank Martin and then making another mistake by choosing to fight Lamont Roach on March 1st.
It’s a combination of lack of ambition, fear, and basic laziness on Tank Davis’ part of not making the right fights to increase his popularity instead of hurting it. More than anything, it’s just plain old fear. Gervonta is afraid to take risks, though the inertia of the force has caught him. An object is resistant to change without anything setting fire to it.
