Sweden has accused Russia of significant cases where the GPS signal was recorded over the Baltic Sea, causing anxiety in the region.

The Swedish Transport Agency (STA) has stated that over the past few years, reports have grown, but have now become a virtually daily phenomenon. So far, in 2025, 733 incidents were recorded, compared to 55 throughout 2023.

The agency said the source of the intervention was leaked to the Russian territory and also touched on delivery. Other European countries have accused Russia of remaining for the silence that Moscow denies.

The STA report comes a few days after the plane carried by Ursul von der Leyen was affected by obstacles.

Andreas Holmgren, the head of the STA aviation, warned that the issue was “serious” and presented “the risk of civil aviation”.

Over the past few years, the airlines operating in the Baltic region have reported tens of thousands of GPS incidents. The Baltic States are recorded by the Russian territory.

In June, Sweden and five other countries in the region – Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland – arose with the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), with which Russia is a member state.

The ICAO Council expressed “great concern about the situation and demands that Russia fulfill its international commitments and ensure that the violations are stopped immediately.”

Despite this, the interruptions in the Baltic Sea region “increased” instead, he added.

European governments and experts regularly blame Russia, saying that such practices are in line with the Kremlin’s alleged strategies to sow disorder and undermine European security.

Moscow regularly denies allegations or attacks on commercial aviation. Russia has not yet been established between Russia and the GPS growth has been established.

The figures of the STA for 2025 are covered by August 28. While they include both the Swedish and non-Swedish airlines, the agency warns that they are considered to be significant underestimations of the number of registered incidents, as airlines often report incidents in the aviation body of their own country.
