Jasprit Bumrah played three of the five tests during the England series as part of a pre-Decidit plan. Sunil Gavaskar said that Jasprit Bumrah had informed the Selection Committee that he could play in just three of the five tests in England. He added that there was debate as to whether Bumrah should have appeared in the crucial final test of the oval, given the great grass on the pitch.
“No one is indispensable. This is why selectors are now deciding now when Jasprit Bumrah should play. There have been many debates about their appearances in the recent series concluded in England,” Gavaskar wrote in his column by mid -day.
“To be fair, he had informed the Selection Committee that he could only do three tests between the five. The debate that has generated a little heat is if he should have played the last mandatory test game, especially since it was the largest land in the oval for a long time,” he added.
Sunil Gavaskar said Bumrah has two months to rest and recover -ahead of the next test in October. He added that team management prioritized the ballist’s long -term form over the immediate interests of the Indian cricket.
“ The next test game was in early October, and there were two clear months to rest and recover in time. The Indian team management stated that it was not chosen taking into account its future. This is where the lines between what is good for the individual and what is good for the Indian cricket took place a little blurred, ” said Gavaskar.
Gavaskar emphasized that the form of Jasprit Bumrah should prioritize -for the good of the Indian cricket. He also said that no player is indispensable and the game continues.
“Surely at that stage if he was in shape, then, for the sake of the Indian cricket, he had to play. Whether it was his call or the call of the No Playing Directorate is not known, but in the end after India’s victory he showed once again if he ever had to know that no one is indispensable in the game. The game only continues.”
Bumrah has not participated in a white ball game for India since the final of the T20 2024 World Cup against South Africa, where he took 2 doctors for 18 runs in four points. India won the second title of the T20 World Cup.
The 31 -year -old lost the Champions League trophy earlier this year due to a back injury, but came up during the IPL 2025. It is expected to be seen in the Action in the Asia Cup 2025.
